the Jute leave commonly known with the
South- westerners (Yoruba’s) in Nigeria as
the ‘Ewedu leaf’ has been scientifically
proven to be a very nutritious vegetable to
man. It is also called ahingbara in Igbo and
rama in the Hausa language. Ewedu has
been part of the south westerner’s diet for
so many decades and it is popularly eaten
among the West Africans.
Ewedu vegetable is often prepared by the
Yoruba’s and is known to have so many
nutritional values. This greenish slimy limy
soup can be enjoyed in different forms.
Gbegiri (local beans soup) can be added to
this soup for a better taste. The ewedu
soup is mostly eaten with Amala.
For those who really do not love the Okra
vegetable, the Jute leaf is the best
substitute for you.
This leaf contains almost all of the nutrient
required by the human body. More
importantly, it is known for its high
antioxidant property which is in the form of
the Vitamin E. *Nutritional and Health Benefits of the ewedu are: ♥ It contains nutrients such as Vitamin A, C and E which reduces Illness in the human body. With these vitamins, it prevents the body from degenerated diseases.
