How many can relate to these movies: Rental ghost, invisible man, Dr who, The man from Atlantic ocean etc. You can add yours. Those days that we had to wait till night for movies on channel 8 in Lagos and channel 5 for cartoons. How time flies! Many private stations and satellite TVs are everywhere now.

Those were years when libraries were the place for the bookworms. When students had to adopt triangle lifestyle: From the class to the library and to the hostel. Now, the search engines will do 50% of the work.

Are we better than our forefathers? How do we fare? But they enjoyed this country called Nigeria. The population was not this large. And the leaders then were thinking along the line of socialism. The Awo of this world. He preached free education, free medicals, full employment and rural urban integration. Zik and his positive action. Aminu Kano believed in bridging the gap between the rich and the poor. It is truly a syndrome of GENERATION GAP in Nigeria today.

We can enjoy good life again; if our leaders can go the way of evolving a WELFARE ECONOMY. Everything geared towards poverty alleviation must come in the way of employment generation. The lower the unemployment and inflation rate, the more the reduction in poverty and misery of the people; other things being equal.

In the mean time, government has to provide Social safety nets to accommodate those that are unemployed and incapable. It is going to be a cycle, from the employed and resources, revenues are generated. Then, everyone benefits through free education, medical services and other comprehensive welfare packages. it is simple but we need the leaders with the strong will to carry it through.
