Scores of staff and students of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, yesterday joined the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba and other members of Management for the kick-off of the 2018 tree planting campaign in the university.
The event which took off from the main university gate, permanent site, was part of the Vice-Chancellor’s vision of making the university the most beautiful and green-campus in Nigeria.

With the Campus-Green Initiative, which started in 2016, the university embarks on yearly tree planting campaign where staff and students are encouraged to donate and plant shrubs, flowers and fruits trees in the university.
Expressing his delight on the enthusiasm showed by staff and students about the campaign, the Vice-Chancellor restated his earlier resolve to make the university the most beautiful and eco-friendly university in Nigeria. He equally noted that for the 2018 campaign, he had donated over 400 different types of trees to be planted along the road leading from the university main gate to the administrative building, and urged both staff and students to be part of the campaign as part of their contribution to the development of the university.

He further noted that years after the completion of his tenure, he would come back to the university to see how the trees were faring, and urged both staff and students who were present to do same as a memorial.
Prior to the commencement of the event, supplications were made, asking God to bless the trees so that it would provide shades and fruits for future generations of the university. After that, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nwajiuba, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunday Elom, President of Nigeria Academy of Science, Professor emeritus Mosto Onuoha, Bursar, Alhaji Rafiu Aliu, University Librarian, Dr. Okalawon Adediji and the President of AE-FUNAI Women Association, Dr. Chinyere Nwajiuba all took turns to plant trees along the university main gate road.

Deans of the various faculties, Directors, Heads of Academic and Administrative departments, Staff Union leaders, Students’ Union leaders, and other staff and students of the university also participated in the campaign.
