Gambling is a vice, it is addictive, it ruins and enslaves lives; even the Bible does not support it - not everyone is irresponsible enough to embrace such immorality.

How can you argue that the abuse of betting and drugs benefits the poor. The fact remains both south and north betnaija and Betfair have a net negative impact on the lives of the poor. Many people are suffering in poverty because of this.
These companies make money of the loss of millions of Nigerians 100 naira at a time.
what a mentality displayed here.. Na wa

Oga gambling when properly regulated and organised can be a vehicle for development. Please google the UK lottery to see how many things it funds - education, movie industry, healthcare and many more.

Gambling is a past time designed for adults only. They are aware of the odds and take decisions to gamble as adults. It's a choice and adults have the right to make their choices.

Meanwhile, can this your ultra holy governor ban the most Exploitative vice in Nigeria, especially the North - corruption by the highly religious elite. If and when he can ban it let him come back to me with his self righteousness... Psheewwww

I repeat, it is exploitative; the odds are always stacked against the gambler, very few ppl benefit from it i.e the organisers and the occasional lucky punter - pray not you or any of family gets caught in the web of gambling addiction.

Borno ppl least need such exposure because they are poor and vulnerable; and gambling thrives more among the poor.

when viable states will be talking this one will come out and talk, do you know how much your state has consumed for security alone, to the extent that it has now become a conduit pipe for embezzlement of fubds. the longer the reign of terror the more some people smile to the bank.

If we keep this people in power, we will keep degrading. There's no freedom in their dictionary. NOLLYWOOD is suffering the same because Buhari is the president. Not minding those employed, he can't do anything to move the industry forward all they care for is allocation.

I don't support nor endorse gambling but the fact remains - it can't be stopped!

It should be Legalised but heavily regulated.

Funny enough Bet9ja and nairabet are Yoruba-owned. The same Yoruba's who insult Easterner when they are told that the country must be divided so that hausa-fulani can live in their sharia caves without dragging the south backward.

Sports betting is duly registered and regulated by Nigerian Gaming Commission; I am sure a lot of people from Borno are working in the Nigerian Gaming Commission and the dullard governor recieves allocation from taxes paid to the FG by these betting companies.

FG should start excluding Taxes generated from alcohol and sports betting from these sharia states.
Bet9ja is one of the sponsor of Nigeria league, Borno club collected this season' s sponsorship deal money.

even if the Tax is 1 kobo they definitely have a share in it but were clever to look away at the other significant tax contributor which is alcohol. The federal system seems to be a clog in the wheel of our progress.

Did the governor say that his action was based on religious or economic standpoint?

He did by connotation. Where was he and what was the event where he made the statement? A religious function :
Shettima stated this while speaking at the 14th Annual Ramadan Lecture organized by Borno Radio Television Corporation in Maiduguri on Sunday
.

“I have given directives to all Bet-Naija and Nairabet agents in the state to leave immediately. Drug and substance abuse gives birth to all immoral vices hence government’s determination to fight all forms of social vices,” Shettima vowed

I laugh when all these black African slaves talk like this. Foreign religions foisted and forced on our ancestors by Arabs and the west: both killed, maimed and slaughtered our ancestors I to submission. The Arabs castrated black and also enslaved and sold our forefathers and brought Islam.
The west killed, maimed and enslaved us too and gave is Christianity. How come we are now more pious and dedicated than they are at these religions at our own detriment?

Can I not buy alcohol in England, UAE and Saudi Arabia? Do the hotels in these countries not have hotels not have casinos? Why are Africans so stupid?

We sit down in our mentally enslaved minds and look at everything through the eyes of religion. So what if the Bible is against it? Is this a Christian country? Even if Islam is against it is this an Islamic State?

For those who have forgotten, Nigeria is a secular or at worst, a multi religious country and it's laws and constitution reflect this.

I read where someone in this thread even asked if the governor said gambling was against Islam. Is that not a foolish statement? He clearly said gambling was a vice. So I ask on what has the governor premised his position if not religious belief? The North is where it is today because of the blind following of religion.

Those companies should take him to court or request that the taxes should be reduced to reflect the reduced access to business.

Aeon oloshi
On us being backward because of religion, I concur. I was opportune to grow in the South but a whole lot of people in the North need orientation and sensitization.

There is no body like "Nigerian Gambling Commission".

The body that regulates all kinds of betting and lottery is called Nigeria Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC).

Please take note.

Internet ? Will you place a 'ban' on that too?

Someone also requested that alcoholics and allied products be banned in his domain but blatantly ignored directing the FG to subtract what is accruable from it from their various state allocations. Please.

Who do we hold responsible for such ?
Leaders or followers?

Most Sensible post. As he bans them from his state, so should the accruable total tax be deducted from their federal allocation. Simple as that.. No need for long ranting..
