Going back millions of years ago, primeval people put down the basis for graphic arts.

They painted animals in caves, representing themselves and ideas with marks and illustrations.

This became more evident in Ancient Egypt. They used hieroglyphics and believed there was great power in a name. If someone’s name was remembered then he or she would survive in the afterlife.

Their paintings and sculpture had precise representational images and colors that had specific meanings.

Moving on, ancient Egyptians begun to use grids in their design to maintain proportions and ratios which is similar to what many logo designers do today.

Meanwhile, calligraphy around this time developed in China. Here each word or idea had its own symbol and this influenced later languages like English.

Getting to the medieval Europe, there were heraldic crests and symbolic signs.

This led to businesses distinguishing themselves by adding heraldic images to their signs.

These images turned to names, allowing patrons to develop a sense of brand loyalty to their favorite brewer.

In 1440, Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press; this was the highlight as printed materials were made available.

Authors and printers of materials wanted to claim ownership of their work.

Businesses begun to distinguish themselves from their competitors via advertisements as newspapers increased in circulation.

This set the stage for logo designs, as more firms spread across the globe and businesses saw the need to be identified. Then the concept of branding evolved.

Connecting the dots to business in the 21st century, humans have always had the desire to be known and recognized.

This also went on to be incorporated in their businesses and institutions and what better way to communicate your identity if not through a logo.

This is what has made some important brands reconstruct their logos overtime to become an ideal representation of their brand.

A perfect example is the series of changes that led to the two golden arches of the https://www.tekxus.com/blog/2018/05/14/whats-in-a-logo/
