Bodies of male twins, identified as Peter and Paul, were at the weekend found in an abandoned freezer in their apartment, in Egbu Umuenem, Otolo Nnewi, Anambra State.
The twins, aged six, said to be the only male children of the parents, were reportedly found lifeless inside an abandoned freezer in the area. Orient Daily gathered that the twins had gone to their mother’s shop, few metres away from their apartment after returning from school Friday evening. A resident of the area, who preferred anonymity, said the twins were instructed by the mother to go home and UnCloth, after which they were to return to the shop for their lunch.
“The mother became worried after waiting for a while for them to come back as instructed, and quickly dashed home to find out what could have kept them back. But to her greatest surprise, she didn’t see any of them at home,” he said. According to the neighbor, the father, Nwachukwu Onwe, a mechanic, from Ebonyi State, said to be at his workshop when the incident happened, went home as soon as he was alerted.
“The man and his wife, together with some of us started going from house to house, inquiring if anybody knew about the children’s whereabouts, but all efforts were to no avail,” he added. Orient Daily, however, gathered that it was the following morning that the lifeless bodies of the twins were found inside an abandoned freezer in the neighbourhood. Our correspondent learnt that occupants of the building, except the victim’s parents and one other tenant, had earlier been issued quit notices to vacate the apartment.
Reacting, the leader of the community, Chief Afam Obi Ekosi, Obi Egbu Umuenem, Otolo, described the incident as abomination, saying that it was the first of its kind in his community. “The incident has thrown the community into mourning. We are dumbfounded. We heard that the children were pupils of a nursery and primary school in the community.
“I am still surprised how that small freezer can contain the twins. I suspect they might have been strangled to death before squeezing them inside the freezer. “Whoever did that must dearly pay for it because this is to dent the image of my community. We have never recorded this kind of crime in this community before,” he lamented.
Ekosi, who disclosed that the police had already been contacted, added, “if it should be investigated, it is in the hands of the police. If it will not be investigated, it is in the hands of God. And God knows who did it. The perpetrator will not go unpunished.” Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Muhammed, said investigation had commenced. https://orientdailynews.com.ng/cityscope/year-old-male-twins-found/lalasticlala seun mynd44 |
