Choosing a new career —whether you want to do a drastic 180 or just make a minor shift—can seem downright impossible. There are so many options. You don’t know what you’re qualified to do. Frankly, you’ve been so busy worrying about your current job that you haven’t taken half an hour to consider what you’d rather be doing. And when you do start to think about it? Your mind morphs into a cloudy mess of overwhelm.
Believe me: I’ve been there, too. And after I did find what I was looking for, I’ve spent time coaching friends and colleagues who are going through the same thing. While there aren’t any shortcuts when it comes to planning a big career change, I’ve found that breaking the big question down into a few simpler ones can be a productive way to get started.
Sometime this week, take the first step toward planning your dream career by filling in the blanks in the sentences below.
1. If I could choose one friend to trade jobs with, I’d choose ____________, because ____________.
2. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to do ____________. It’s interesting to me because ____________.
3. If I had the right education or skill set, I’d definitely try ____________, because ____________.
4. If I had to go back to school tomorrow, I’d major in ____________, because ____________.
5. My co-workers and friends always say I’m great at ____________, because ____________.
6. The thing I love most about my current job is ____________, because ____________.
7. If my boss would let me, I’d do more of ____________, because ____________.
8. If I had a free Saturday that had to be spent “working” on something, I’d choose ____________, because ____________.
9. When I retire, I want to be known for ____________, because ____________.
Once you’re done, take a look at your answers. You may find clear-cut patterns—for example, that everything on your list has to do with designing beautiful spaces or playing sports. But at the very least, you’ll probably see some common themes. Maybe it’s creativity, or caring for others, or working outside using your hands. And no, those things don’t point to one single career path, but knowing what you value, what you enjoy, and what you want to be known for is a great way to get started honing in on what you want to do next (or, hey, eliminating possibilities).

Nigeria economic situation do not allow one to pursue what he/she really wants. We just want a job that pays the bill constantly, because your passion might not have money value, or little value here in nigeria.

But I will rather that we pursue our passion at the end , that's if time permits, as this brings satisfaction.

Funny, if you are a Nigerian and venture into a non-profitable venture because it is your passion, the person must be prepared to ride on personal-life recession for years long.

Most Nigerians go into a profession they actually detest but brings much money into their account because you "can't come and kill yourself."

Nice and informative. Every man or woman have their own dreams for careers. Butter thing is growing their educational qualifications. Some extra activities help to find better job. I remember I applied for bank vacancy at Seylan. They ignored me, because I had no extra curricular activities.

USE IT OR LOSE IT!!!

Recently, I was watching a short scientific movie and the scientist there carried out an experiment by tying his arm to the body for several hours. Guess what? Immediately he untied the arm he realized that the idle arm had lost its strength and cannot perform like the other arm. Why? Because it is not used for a period of time! This is applicable to our lives also, God has given us talents to be successful in life, but probably due to some reasons we stop using them, and that's the end of it. No matter how great your talent is, if you don't make use of it, it'll soon die in you. Yes, that's the principle!

What is Talent? Talent is "a natural ability to be good at something, especially without being taught". It is inbuilt. Just like peak's motto "It's in you..." Have you discovered yours? Are you developing it at all? Talent is a natural blessing from God that a man is born with. Unfortunately, many are yet to discover theirs, while some who did have not been nurturing it well. One thing about talent is that if you don't use it, you will lose it in the long run. Many are struggling carrier-wise today because they refuse to use the talents God has given them, God who placed these talents in us already knows our nature and capability, going out of the context may attract disfavour. When a man does what he's talented at, this innate passion, creativity, accuracy, pleasure, happiness, luck, etc which will result in high productivity. Have you ever wondered why star players like Lionel Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo become magical whenever they handle ball on the pitch? Because they discovered their talent, followed their passion, and invest their time in developing it. Having a talent is just like having a cheque in your hands, it's your choice to either keep it and remain stranded, or use it and become fruitful.

Are you a parent & you noticed that your child is passionate about certain thing(s) ? Even though it may look silly to you but please sir/ma don't stop him/her! rather, support that child in developing such talent. Many parents have failed in this area & this single mistake has made shipwreck of the lives of many people who would've become great in life. No wonder we have legion of incompetent graduates/employees out there!

Don't bury your talent because of the things people say about it, one big secret is that majority will discourage or even mock you when you're starting, but if you are bold enough to keep your head up, you'll surely scale through and one day those who were discouraging/mocking you before will begin to hail you. Wait, are you being mocked/rejected by people while developing your talent? Maybe I should inspire you with the story of Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) - He was born in a middle-class family whose father was a farmer, later he got admission in Oxford University, during his days in the school he started taking interest in acting and decided to join a comedy group, but he couldn't perform well due to his speaking disorder (stammering), he approached a lot of TV shows but was rejected because he's a stammerer, despite all the hardships he still believes in himself. Later on, He was challenged to start his own show "Mr Bean" which became a global success. Today, Rowan Atkinson is one of the most famous celebrities of all times and has a net worth of $132million.

Another thing that kills talent in a man is the fear of starting small. Don't be afraid of starting small, spend time in developing your talent, there's a popular saying "the mother of all skills is repetition", you don't become an expert in a day, make mistakes and learn from it, you'll become perfect one day.

Don't waste your time watching celebrities on television or ranting about celebrities online 24/7. Those you're watching had decided to be watched, you should also decide to be watched! You're a player, not a spectator! Discover your talent, develop it, train yourself, train your mind, give yourself to a tutor/teacher. Think through a problem, and find how you can use your talent to solve it, let people come to you for advice. Decide to be a problem solver with your talent. There's a short supply of problem solvers in the world, there's a place for anyone who chooses to be one.

God has destined you to be the best with your talent, but where are your works? You're sleeping too much! It's time to put your best into it! Let the whole humanity feel the impact of your talent!

I believe in your talent, please don't let it die with you. Start nurturing it now!! At times, the little talents that we think doesn't count actually counts. Make use of your God given talent, it may be the solution to the long-term problem in the nation or the world at large.

If Mark Zuckerberg had buried his talent, will there be facebook?

if Larry Page had buried his talent, will there be google?

If John Logie Baird had buried his talent, will there be television?

If Steven Sasson had buried his talent, will there be camera?

If Martin Cooper had buried his talent, will there be phone?

If Edward Butler had buried his talent, will there be Motorcycle?

The list is endless.

Are you confused about How to discover your talent? You can use any of these methods:

-Meditate

You have to take time out to meditate and open your mind to all paths. This is because talent comes in usual and unusual forms. Hence, you are likely to be blind to what some of your talents really are. A nice place to start when evaluating your talents is to meditate.

-Listen to others

Your friends or family members are usually aware of your talents even if you don’t. They must have told and complimented you about what you are great at. Try to listen to them more.

-What do you find easy

There are things that you do with little or no stress that others find very difficult. That is probably your talent. You should grab it with both hands and try to hone it.

-What you enjoy most

Your talents may be displaying itself in other ways. It may come in the form of what you love or enjoy doing especially during your free time. If you are attracted to it, it is your natural talent. You just need to be self-conscious.

-Analyse times you were successful

Look back on your life and analyse the times you were successful. Sometimes what you are successful at can actually be your talent.

-Subjects you are passionate about

Like earlier stated, talent comes in various form. So, ask yourself, is there a specific subject that you love to talk about to the extent that your friends tell you to shut up or keep quiet? Consider that subject, perhaps it may be one of your hidden talents.

-Just ask your friends

Do not be ashamed to ask your close friends you know that will give you an honest answer about what they think your talents are. There is no need for them to talk about your flaws. Allow them to share the few things that they think you are good at.
==============

IN CONCLUSION, having a talent is just like having a cheque in your hands, it's your choice to either keep it and remain stranded, or use it and become fruitful. Don't let God regret giving you that talent, bro/sis do something about it. Don't let it die with you!

I REST MY CASE!!!
