What is IPOB?
IPOB has not registered itself as a legitimate organisation.

Is it a political party?
Is it pressure group?
Is it a charity?
Is an NGO?
Is it a professional body?
Is it a company or business? is it a radio station?
Is it a protest group or rent- a- mob group?

What are the laws and regulation that that govern IPOB organisation?
What codes of conduct and accountability have IPOB signed up to?

Who are the funders of IPOB, is the sources of their funding legal, transparent and available for public scrutiny?

Do they pay taxes to the goverment?

Who is the leader of IPOB, who are the board members of the IPOB organisation.

How is IPOB as an organisation being run and conducted ?
Does it threaten and intimidate the public
Does it confront , challenge and dare they the govt, police and constituted authority?
Does it issue orders (e.g. "Sit-at-home"wink in a menacing and intimidating manner to the public?

All the above considered the govt saw an organisational known as IPOB that has not defined or registered itself , and therefore are not bound by any organisational rules threatening war and violence, making hates speeches , giving intimidating and threatening orders to the public to sit at home.
A group whose trademark is to take the path of confrontation and defiance towards the authorities and security services.
A group whose leadership is mainly a mystery and sources of funding is undeclared.

In the absence of IPOB defining and regulating itself in a lawful manner it may well be unsurprising that the authorities had to find some way to outlaw it and defining IPOB as a terrorist organisation was the way to do so.

If IPOB is a terrorist group then, all political parties in Nigeria are terrorist group, all past and serving governors including senators , rep. Members and past and present president of Nigeria are all terrorist.

Meanwhile terrorist or no terrorist , proscribe or no proscribe don't have meaning because it didnt stop IPOB activities.
Sit at home is an example of Ipob activity.

IPOB should legitimise itself by forming into a political party and open itself up to regulation, scrutiny and accountability.

Hate speeches, threats of war and intimidation are forms of terrorism.

If they continue to be lawless and terroristic they would remain proscribed.

IPOB was threatening war? Since when? They are talking about referendum. Hate speech is not an act of terrorism unless it is supported by action. Violence must be an act or an action, speeches, wether hate or not, is not an action.

As for intimidation, this is subjective. What Dele regards as intimidation may not be what Emeka considers as intimidation. Besides, if intimidation is an act of terrorism, every Nigerian would being court right now. Who has not tried to intimidated someone in the past?

So what makes IPOB a terrorist group? Did they take up arms? No

Did they kill anybody? No

Did they go about destroying property? No

The only violence attributed to IPOB is the one that resulted from clashes with the authorities. If every organisation that has violent clash with Army and Police was to be declared a terrorist organisation, it would mean that the Nigerian Labour Congress(NLC), National association Of Nigerian Students(NANS) and National Union Of Road Transport Workers(NUTRW) should all be declared terrorist organisation. I have witnessed all three violently clash with the authorities.

So what makes IPOB a terrorist group?

All these points you are making are pedestrian and stupid. Do you know more about what the law says than the learned judge who proscribed the organization? Or do you think it was the government that designated them terrorists? Luckily IPOB has appealed the judgement and the matter is before the appeal court. Dont just open your mouth and talk anyhow because you are a sympathizer

IPOB was legally declared a terror organisation, Court rules

An Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has refused an application by members of the Indigenous People Of Biafra seeking the nullification of the proscription order made against the group on September 20.

Members of IPOB had approached the court after it made an order proscribing the group as a terror organisation last September.

IPOB had through its lawyers, led by Ifeanyi Ejiofor, alleged a violation of its fundamental rights to fair hearing and freedom of assembly by the federal government in its (governments) motion brought ex parte.

An ex parte motion is one that does not require the participation of all sides before a decision can be taken by the court.

In his ruling, Justice Abdul Kafarati said the basic instrument in the particular ex parte motion was the approval of the Nigerian president which was stated to have been given in the application brought by the Attorney General of the Federation.

Consequently, the court said it was of the view that: “the application brought by the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation ex-parte was properly brought”.

He added that the rights of the IPOB members were not abused as alleged by their lawyers and ordered N500,000 as damages to be paid by the applicant.

The proscription order made by the court in September, came days after the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, went missing from his home in Abia State.

Mr. Kanu who is facing trial with other defendants on alleged terrorism and other related offences has not been seen since last September.

The topic at hand is not if IPOB was legally proscribed. The topic is the reasons for the proscription.

That a judge will sit somewhere and proscribe an organisation without hearing the organisation is not justice. That sort of ruling where only one side is heard is only in the case of emergencies

So what were the reasons or emergencies that informed the government to proscribe IPOB?

The reason IPOB was declared as a terrorist organization by the court was because the governments case against it was convincing. IPOB is currently challenging this judgment at the appeal court, whether or not you agree with the judgment is immaterial. For now IPOB remains a proscribed terrorist organization under Nigerian law period

All these questions are not necessarily. One essential question people should ask themselves is why did federal government proscribe IPOB as a terrorist organisation but the America and the EU came out to say that IPOB is not a terrorist group?

Does it mean that America that has fought global terrorist groups like Taliban, Al Qaeda and Hamas suddenly had a brain freeze when it came to IPOB?

Why do people think that the British government has not shut Radio Biafra down from broadcasting from Britain?

Why is IPOB still freely demonstrating in America, Britain, Germany and others but those countries are not disturbing them?

The answer is that those countries do not see IPOB AS a terrorist group, and for good reason.

The reason why they don't see IPOB AS a terrorist group is that all terrorist groups have one thing in common which IPOB does not have, and that is, they do not use of violence to achieve their goal.

IPOB has not used violence to try and achieve Biafra. IPOB may have had violent clashes with the authorities, but that is a different thing all together. There is no country in the world where certain groups don't clash with the authorities or security agencies, that results in violence.

But it is a different thing when a group is using violence, wether they clash with the authorities or not. Boko Haram uses violence wether they clash with anyone or not, Herdsmen use violence wether they clash with the authorities or not, same goes for Niger Delta militants

But IPOB has never gone out of its way to unleash violence.

That is why IPOB isn't a terrorist group.
Can you tell us when did US and co declare Book Haram a terrorist organization?
Book Haram began it's insurgency in 2009 but how many years did it take America to declare it a terrorist organization despite all it's atrocities? May we hear from you please?

To say that herdsmen are terrorists is as absurd as saying shoemakers are terrorists.

Herdsmen provide and economic function just like shoemakers.

People who are murdering people in Benue are either criminals or terrorists. They are not herdsmen.
Herdsmen herd cattle, terrorists terrorise communities.

IPOB terrorise.

Pigs and comprehension disabilities. I'm not saying Boko Haram is not declared as terrorist organization but I'm asking what date or year was it declared by the US and CO as terrorist organization? Was it 2009, 2010,...,2018? When exactly? Or was it the very same time when Nigeria declare it as terrorist that US also declare it?
