The Principal of the Methodist Girls Model Secondary School, Ovim, Isuikwuato, Mrs. Oluchi Udenye, has refuted the report that some students of the school were raped by hoodlums.

Udenye, who narrated what happened, stressed that the only invader who scaled the school fence succeeded in inflicting injuries on nine students as a result of the resistance that was put up by the girls.

The principal commended the responses from stakeholders and concerned citizens, assuring that the school authorities would not rest on its oars to improve the security situation.

Speaking on the incident, the Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, noted that government would go a step further to improve on the human security, monitoring of the area and other institutions in Abia state, especially female institutions, calling on security agencies to bring the culprit to book. The commissioner said that the government has dispatched an investigative team to the school to determine the remote and immediate causes of the incident.

When contacted on phone, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State Command, Geoffrey Ogbonna, said he was not aware of the incident and promised to get in touch with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at Ovim, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of the state.
