VAT WONDER GOAL: OKPOTU, USMAN AND ANI IN RACE FOR MATCH DAY 22 PRIZE
Lobi Stars Anthony Okpotu, Bashir Usman of Niger Tornadoes and Elijah Ani of Wikki Tourists completes the trio listed for Match Day 22 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) VAT Wonder Goal award nominees announced by the League Management Company (LMC).

Usman was the hero for Niger Tornadoes at Nnewi where he netted a back breaking goal four minutes into added time to dent FC IfeanyiUbah’s three seasons’ home invincibility on Sunday, May 27. In the historic win at FC IfeanyiUbah’s fortress, Bashir was put clear and after a perfect first touch, chose his spot to net the winning goal to deflate the home side’s ceaseless raid for a winner. In Jos on a day relegation threatened Wikki Tourists found their scoring range, Ani was at the end of a counter offensive, calmly slotting from the edge of the box after running clear of the defenders to reach a pass from Abba Umar who led the counter with a dash across the halfway line.

Last season’s top scorer and CHAN Eagles lead forward, Okpotu made a light work of a free kick from over 25 meters and in a straight line from the goalkeeper’s spot, evading the four man wall to be the goalkeeper with a rising shot that sailed to the top left side of the keeper.

Video of the goals have been uploaded on the NPFL website, www.npfl.ng and on the twitter handle, @lmcnpfl for fans to vote their favourite of all the goals. The player whose goal attracts the combined highest number of votes will emerge the winner. The poll opens Friday, June 1 and ends at midnight of Tuesday, June 5.

The winner will be the recipient of the N150,000 cash prize half of which will be donated to a charity to be nominated by the player from the city his club is based. The VAT Wonder Goal is an initiative of the LMC to grow clubs-community engagement. It is supported by the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) as a platform to extend tax education to the football community.
