Nigerian-german Firm Loses N500m To 2 Sales Managers by sophsia62: 4:13pm On Jun 06, 2018
Two Sales Managers working with the Nigerian-German Chemical Plc in Lagos, have been arrested and arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly conspiring to obtain 123,440 bottles of Benylin with codeine, 567,560 bottles of Benylin expectorant and 459,560 bottles of Benylin for children from their employer on the pretext to sell the goods and remit the proceeds into their account.

The suspects, Osayi Chinweike, 30 and Falusi Idowu, 42, the police alleged sold the goods and failed to remit the money into their employer’s account, but converted the money to their personal use.

Following the development, the management of the German Firm reported the incident to the Commissioner of Police, CP in charge of the Police Special Fraud Unit, PSFU, Ikoyi, Lagos, Mr Ibrahim Lamorde who directed a team led by SP Austin Osobase to arrest the accused persons.

The accused were charged before an Igbosere Magistrate Court on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining N500m goods under false pretence and stealing.

Police Counsel, Sylvester Azuibike informed the court in charge No A/43/2018 that the accused persons committed the alleged crime in Lagos.

Azubuike told the court that the accused persons who were Sales Managers connived to obtain N500m goods from the complainant on the pretext to sell and remit the proceeds into their account, but instead sold the goods and converted the money to their use and escaped before they were arrested at a hideout.

He said the offences the accused committed were punishable under sections 409, contrary to section 278 and punishable under section 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to tbe alleged crime and Chief Magistrate, O Oshin granted them bail in the sum of N2m each with two sureties each in like sum.

Oshin adjourned the case till 5 July, 2018 for mention and ordered that the defendants be kept at the Ikoyi Prison till they perfected their bail conditions.

Correction. It's not a German firm. It's been owned by Nigerians for about two decades.
