when we talk about a poultry farm,what do we mean?
A poultry farm is a place where domesticated birds such as chickens,ducks,turkies and geese are raised,for the purpose of meat or eggs for food.
many people today in and outside Nigeria wants to start up a poultry farm but dont knw the steps to take in to make the best,while most people who have started are complaining of low production.I will not be mistaken if I say that those problems have come to an end.All you have to do is to read carefully,as we will be talking of making the best production in your poultry farm.
There are many tips in succeeding in this area,and we will talk about them respectively.
When starting up a poultry farm,the first thing to be done is:

(1).Make sure the poultry site is neat:
Many of our poultry farmers today no-longer check on the environment where the birds are been raised,that is why many of us record loss in our poultry farm,due to disease infestation.As a good poultry farmer,there are things to be done on the floor of the the poultry farm before bringing the birds in.These include:
-Washing the place:The poultry environment should be washed thoroughly with enough disinfectant,detergent and warm water,after which you rinse the place thoroughly with enough water and allow the place to dry properly.

(2).Make sure there is no threat in or around the place:
Another major problem that most of our poultry farmers face is threat.Threat is one thing that will never give a human being rest,not to talk of the birds that dont even have up to quarter percent of human strength.A good poultry farmer will make sure that there is no threat in or around the place where the birds stay.
Now,when we talk about threat what do we mean?
A threat in this case is something that has an expression of intent to injure or even harm the birds in some cases. Some of the threat we have in regards to poultry includes:pussy cat,snake,dog,soldier ants,e.t.c.Once these threat must have been dealt with and conquered,there will be improvement in the poultry farm.

(3).Let there be cross-ventilation to enable air and adequate illumination:
In a place where there is no cross-ventilation,the place tends to be unconducive for living things because there will be lack of light and air.While setting up a poultry,there should be ventilation,in other to make the temperature of the place conducive,most especially for birds within the age of one month and above.But in the case of birds less than one month old,the ventilation should not be too open.While raising birds of less than one month old,the temperature of the room should be warm,since there is no mother to cover them with her wings and make them feel warm.If proper care is not given to the at this stage in their lives,there are possibilities that they will die of cold.Outside the young ones,there should be proper ventilation.

(4).Make sure there is artificial illumination(bulb light) at night:
Birds are kind of creatures that eat at any point in time,whether in the day or at night,provided there is light to enable them see.No buyer will ever go to the market to buy a poultry bird and go for one that is not healthy or weighty.Therefore,it is necessary for the birds to be provided with artificial light at night.Light can be in form of lamp or electricity bulb,but i will advice that a poultry farmer should go for the electricity light,which will make them see very well.
At this point,the birds can now be brought in before the other things follow.

(5).Feed them always,even at night:
As I earlier said,these birds eat at any point in time.So avoid their feeding trough from being empty at any given time.Feeding them at all times seriously adds to their growth.

(6).Treat them every month:
Proper treatment should be given to the birds at intervals(every month),in other to promote good health and reduce disease infection.At this point,the birds should be watched closely to see if the drugs/drug is having any adverse effect on them.

(7).Let the sick birds be isolated:
Every sick bird should be isolated,in other to avoid spread of disease.Special attention should be given to the sick ones to enable fast recovery and also to avoid too much loss of weight because the longer the sickness,the more weight they lose(the healthy ones ones should also be monitored).

(.Clean the place from time to time:
Cleaning of the poultry farm should not only be done when the birds are about coming in. This should be a regular exercise that will help avoid diseases among the birds.This exercise should be done atleast once in a week(this includes changing of saw(for those that make use of it),but avoid doing it in a way that it will now be a form of disturbance to the birds.

(9).Wash the feeding trough and drinker always:
The feeder and the drinker should be washed always before putting fresh water or food for them because the birds usually defecate on the feeder or drinker,which enables diseases if not properly washed.

(10).Always consult your avian veterinarian:
Who is an avian veterinarian?
This is one who specializes in treating birds.While owning a poultry farm,you should make an avian veterinarian your friend,so you can easily call upon the person for regular checkup on your birds.
