Nigeria is a third world country (should be 4th or 5th if there's anything like that) how ever, an ordinary house of representative member earns more than a Chinese president. Not to talk of Senators, governors and the president.

If you go through the Nigerian budget you will find out that 70% of the expenditures is simply salaries. Predominantly that of the top politicians and heads of parastatals.

The ridiculous amount of money that this people are paid is the reason why we have electoral crisis, and so on in Nigeria. They will rather die or have anyone who stands on their way dead than accept defeat.

Nigerian politics will be great if the politicians are paid equivalent to that of a university lecturer or public hospital doctors. That way, only those who truly want to serve will contest for election.
