A popular Mexican soothsayer, Antonio Vazquez Alba – known as Brujo Mayor, who predicted on Wednesday, 13 June that Mexico would not lose against Germany, but will either end up with a 1-0 or 0-0 scoreline has been vindicated after Mexico won by a goal to nil this evening.


The magician who is famous for his annual predictions on politics and the news – invoked the plumed serpent god Quetzalcoatl, worshipped by the Aztecs and other pre-Columbian peoples, to get the Mexican national team to at least the quarter-finals in Russia.

For over 30 years, the septuagenarian has been holding an annual press conference where he reads tarot cards and makes predictions about what’s going to happen in the upcoming year. It’s become one of Mexico’s more fondly indulged-in annual traditions.

“Give me all your force and power to break through heaven’s doors, let Mexico reach the fifth match. Quetzalcoatl, let it be so,”


"We ask for unification. We call it to decree in metaphysics, that is, when you keep thinking about something and ask for it to come true, in this case for the national team to win," he said.

"We have to send lots of love to our national team,"

“We will at the very least have a 0-0 draw, or a 1-0 win for Mexico,”

The sorcerer also predicted the winner of the tournament

“A Latin team will be champion,”
