More than 300 Tanzanian members of parliament are taking HIV tests in public today. This is to encourage more people to get tested.

Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa had directed local government leaders to take part in the HIV test to encourage the public.

Majaliwa said this will allow those found with the virus to start medication immediately.

Statistics by Tanzania Commission for AIDS reveals an estimated 1.4 million people living with HIV, but only 52% of them are aware of their conditions.
