From this end, a somewhat all-round impressive performance by the Super Eagles. I notice lots of people assess their first-half showing as utterly poor but I beg to differ. Well, I realized some truths during and after the game. First, Mikel is most effective as a defensive midfielder rather than as an attacking midfielder. Jose Mourinho was right. Second, Ighalo should remain on the bench in subsequent matches, because he seems to be bereft of striking sharpness and dynamism. Third, Musa should not be benched again in this tournament. And lastly, with the considerable tightness of Nigeria's defense, the discipline of our midfield and resurgence of our strike force, the team has a chance of making it to the final of this World Cup tournament, only if today's performance is repeated with a lively strike presence from the start. No hyberbole intended. Some retrospection on the previous match reveals that Croatia's two goals were just sheer luck--the own goal and penalty call. Nigeria played well nonetheless.
