The Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) has launched JAMBMOBILE, a mobile application which can aide candidates to check matriculation status, accept or reject admission.

The application was unveiled at the 2018 policy meeting of tertiary institutions which took place at the newly opened 4000 capacity Bola Babalakin auditorium in Gbongan, Osun state.

Speaking at the programme, Adamu Adamu, minister of education, asked leaders of educational institutions to imbibe transparency.

The minister said he had evidence that some leaders of educational institutions were not carrying out their jobs with honesty.

“Some of you carry out your duties with full understanding and knowledge that some of your actions cannot stand the test of integrity, as some of the infractions you endorse and approve are irregular,” he said.

He listed some of these irregularities as irregular admissions, skewed fees and refusal to adhere to policy decisions.

He urged all stakeholders to ensure compliance with all policy directives in the interest of the nation’s educational development.

In attendance were all vice chancellors of universities, rectors of polytechnics and registrar of JAMB.

Wale Babalakin, pro-chancellor of the University of Lagos, who built the Bola Babalakin Auditorioum, said he was motivated by a desire to provide an environment conducive to serious intellectual work.

“It is our fervent believe that Nigeria will only achieve its full potential when the aggregate of our intellectual capacity is developed and harnessed appropriately,” he said.

“We cannot achieve our full potential if we do not reward competence and hard work and simultaneously punish bad behavior.”

He said he hoped other institutions would utilise the facility which many have described as one of the best on the continent.

In his presentation, Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB registrar, reviewed the improvement policies and process put in place to ensure a hitch-free admissions for the 2018 academic sessions.

There has been an expansion of e-selling points mobile money operators, microfinance banks, online payments, POS and ATMS.

For the first time also, exam centers can be monitored from the JAMB headquarters, thereby minimising incidents of fraud.

He also said exams were now being synchronised to ensure that they begin and end at the same time across the country.

The central admission system which was designed and deployed in 2017 is helping to ensure a seamless admission process, including managing the process of admission for candidates who do not get into their first choice universities without them paying any extra fees.
