Nigeria is in pensive mood right now, we've been thrown into mourning mood by the 85th minute strike of Marcus Rojo that dashed the hope of our dear super eagles at the 2018 FIFA world cup. Many Nigerians are heart broken and sad because of a football match unfortunately these same set of people have untold apathy towards their nation and its development.

I watched the 90 minute encounter at the African Amphitheater, the largest building of Obafemi Awolowo University and it was filled to the brim with Nigerians in high spirit. I thought within myself how beautiful it will be if the number of students who came to watch this match in Amphi (not to talk of those who watched at other places) will turn out to vote and become politically conscious in the 2019 general elections, our country will be a better place.

Our patriotism is in football but we are blind to the continuous raping of our Commonwealth by the elite, we are blind to the genocide going on in our land, we have untold apathy towards the coming election because we feel it's predetermined. The only reason we are where we are today is because we have folded our hands and watched.

We are only active when it comes to entertainment and sports, maybe superficial religion will make the triad but when it comes to contributing our quota to our nation's development, we are held back by personal ambition, tribalism and apathy.

Our emancipation won't come through sports, the best winning the 2018 world cup will give us is an euphoria which will die down as soon as begins. We need to pay close attention political participation - this is the only way we can be liberated and only then can the chance of excellence in sports performance come alive again!

So don't let your patriotism stop with the loss of the eagles tonight,
Be more patriotic by registering to vote and getting your PVC,
Be more patriotic by voting on the election day.
Be patriotic by holding your current office with integrity!
Be patriotic by striving to hold the unity of Nigeria not dividing it along political or religious divides!
It's time for a new generation of patriotic Nigerians to arise, will you be one of them?
