It has been raining here in Lagos all day today. In fact, it has been raining since yesterday. Everywhere is so cold, but is it cold enough for snow?

Over the years, many people have claimed that it has snowed in Nigeria. However, research shows that these reports are usually for hail, and not snow.

A good number of Nigerians mistake hail for snow. This is understandable, considering the fact that that is the closest many of us have been to experiencing snowfall.

So, has it ever snowed in Nigeria?

The simple answer to that question is "No". At least, it has not been documented. Let us add the little chance that it has probably snowed in the past but there are no records.

However, hailstones have fallen a number of times. Even hail is not that common an occurrence, but it happens. It has been reported in a number of States over time.

Why do Nigerians get excited over hail?

Nigerians get excited over hail simply because it does not even happen often. Many Nigerians have not even seen hail, let alone snow. So, when we see hailstones, we tend to get excited. This is totally understandable.

Can it ever snow in Nigeria?

After establishing that it has never snowed in Nigeria, the next question is if it can even snow here at all? So, what do you think?
