VOLKSWAGEN AWAITS AUTOMOTIVE LAW TO PRODUCE 2M CARS IN NIGERIA — MD
Thomas Schaefer, the Chairman and Managing Director of Volkswagen, says the company is ready to produce two million made-in-Nigeria cars as soon as President Muhammadu Buhari gives assent to the automotive industry bill.

Schaefer made the statement in Abuja during an interview with newsmen as he led a delegation to discuss developing the African automotive industry by adopting an African approach.

“The market at the moment in Nigeria is not big due to various reasons, total number of cars built in Nigeria is about 10,000 cars which is small.

DANGOTE INAUGURATES MEGA CEMENT WAREHOUSE IN OWERRI
A mega cement warehouse located at the Industrial Layout, Onitsha Road, Owerri, capital of Imo State, to serve corporate outfits and people of the Southeast and other zones in the country, was on Monday, opened for commercial use.

Present at the event were the President, Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, among others captains of industry.

Declaring the ultra-modern warehouse open, Okorocha noted that Dangote had embraced the business world in many products, praising the richest man in Africa for his outstanding initiatives in empowering Nigerians and other nationals in the area of employment, through the establishment of many industries and foundations.

SHITTU EMPHASISES NEED TO DRIVE EDUCATION THROUGH INTERNET
The Minister of Communications, Dr Adebayo Shittu on Tuesday restated the need to use internet and information technology to drive education in the country, Tribune reports.

Shittu reiterated this at the 2018 edition of ‘Nigeria Internet Governance Forum’ in Abuja with the theme: ‘Internet: An Enabler for Good Governance’.

“It is important that the internet is used as a tool for driving education while assuring socio-economic advancement in an inclusive manner.

MACRON TO OPEN ALLIANCE FRANCAISE HEADQUARTERS IN IKOYI
As part of the activities lined up for his visit to Nigeria, French President, Emmanuel Macron, will on Wednesday open the new headquarters of Alliance Francaise in Ikoyi, Lagos, PUNCH reports.

The French president is billed to arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday. He is scheduled to visit Afrika Shrine, a nightclub founded by the late Afrobeat maestro, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

According to a statement on Monday, Alliance Francaise, a French language and cultural centre, has got an expansive new edifice, located at No 9, Osborne Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, which will be opened by Macron.
