this is a stupid project ... the multi-billion naira world class hospital lies dormant cos it can't be properly funded and he's doing this? .. why not set up the hospital that has all the facilities with good doctors and nurses instea of diverting funds to this?

That is not true. Lagos state for instance had witnessed developmental projects under APC

you're very correct, I was shocked when I went to Otefe and saw such a beautiful structure in such location where only few can locate, it's just so shameful such stranded hospital is in a death location
In 2011, when the accreditation team of West African Postgraduate Medical College went there for assessment, I was stupefied at the surprise displayed by members of the team at what was on display. At the end, the leader of the team made one solemn remark:a place that cannot sustain itself and whose services are beyond the reach of the local populace cannot survive. They, however proffered solutions, of course not binding.

Do I look like a son to you?. I criticized what you said by assuming only PDP states had been performing. You know very well that it is not true that was why I gave Lagos as an example. By the way asuustrike2009 is just a moniker and not a name. It has nothing to do with my studies as I choose that name myself

If you go back and read my earlier post slowly, you will see that i exempted Lagos .

Leave all the story.

Tell us the name of the place that the West African Postgraduate Medical College went to in 2011

Folk think everyone is ignorant of the goings on in our health sector.

Healtcare is about people.

Professionalls trained to a very high standard and more importantly RETAINED to stay and work in Nigeria.

Neither of these is happening.

The so called West African College whose examination papers are on sale just like is the case in undergraduate medical schools?

Health care is Nigeria is not about hosppitals.

In fact give young children good food and clean water as well as dispose of sewage properly and most of our problems will go away.

Malaria is preventable 100% we know what to do but don't do it?

If you sort out clean water , clean toilets, proper disposal of rubbsh you will have healthy people. Spend money educating people and ensure a well fed population problem fixed.

Yes there is need for secondary and tertiary care but that is not the reason why 1 in 5 children in Nigeira do not see their 5th birthday. It is because of malnutrition , dirty water and poor sanitation.

Hospitals on the other hand are an opportunity to award contracts and steal money

Should you be bulding a tertiary hospital without a credible workforce strategy in place?

Can Akwa Ibom afford to pay specialist doctors? Do specialist doctors at the top of their game want to live in Akwa Ibom
Can the Hospital be independent of politics?

The reality is it is only half baked Nigerian doctors that wish to work for government. No specialist worth his salt wants to be in Nigeria much less Akwa Ibom.

Government should forget about tertiary care and focus on clean water for ALL , eliminate open defecation , promote immunizatio, invest in health education and ensure nursing mothers know what to feed childrenn as they wean them off breast milk

God bless you for this post. You have aptly highlighted 80 percent of the health challenges in this part of the world, which are very preventable. The major focus should be on primary health care and public health to reduce the rate of neglected tropical disease

The fundamental problem in AKwa Ibom is "leaders" who have NO PLAN
and NO VISION

The correct vision for Akwa Ibom is to assume that oil wealth will not last for ever and to educate its people as well as pursuing industrialization. Freeing the minds from superstition is very important in that state

The fundamental health issues in AKwa Ibom are best dealt with in Primary care nott building hospitals that lack viability

Akwa Ibom could have built a refinery over the last 16 years either alone or coming together with states like Rivers and Delta?

The other thing is gas flaring. What are those states doing to encourage gas production and utilization as a driver for industrialization?

The problem with folk like Udom and Akpabio is Small Man Syndrome.

They know they are small and are incapable of putting together a team of smart people because they have to be the biggest beast in the jungle

Akwa Ibom is a truly blessed state but a long way from realizing its potential.

Akwa Ibom needs to find a way of integrating with Cross River to synergize their economies and even across the border in Anglophone Cameroon.

The fish resources in that area are even more than oil

Goernment has limited resource and so every resource allocation decision has an opportunity cost.

If we build this stadium that means we must forego 20 schools e,g

If we share the Abacha loot we may have to give up a water project

and so on

With a tertiary hospital it is irresponsible to build a hospital without planning for staff.

After building a hospital Akpabio handed it over to Indians ( a scam) that deal has now been aborted.

If you build 100 stadiums that will not win you the World Cup you must develop yor players. That entails strategy.

But you folk do thinks upside down. Frst you build a hospital and then you start looking for doctors

God bless you sir. I've often wondered why an oil producing state like akwa ibom reputed for being the state with the highest allocation from the FG can't build a state owned refinery, to harness it area of comparative advantage which is oil. Instead of cross river and akwa ibom joining forces as a common frontier to promote economic growth between the two states and to support each other interms of influencing certain deals from the FG. They will rather be bickering with each other on who is better and superior.
