Operatives of the Intelligence Response Team led by DCP Abba Kyari has apprehended six suspected notorious armed robbers responsible for bank and filling station robberies as well as car snatching in Kwara, Kogi, Niger, Kaduna states and the Federal Capital Territory

The IRT also recovered three AK 47 rifles, one K2 rifle, pump action gun and over 500 rounds of live ammunition.

Using the police technical platform, the operatives were said to have arrested one James Obaje, 34, a native of the Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, whose confession led to the arrest of other gang members, including Nelson Yakubu, 36, and Yakubu Danladi, 27.

Others are Ibrahim Mutari, 25, Suleiman Ilo, 35, and Gboyega Olaoye, 35, all of who were arrested in Kwara, Kaduna and Kogi states.

The gang’s operational vehicle, a blue Mazda 626 with registration number KEY627DS was also recovered by the police.

Rifles hidden inside the engine compartment of the car, including charms and several vehicle number plates were also recovered.

“The suspects confessed to have carried out various robbery operations and car-snatching in Kwara, Kogi, Kaduna and Abuja. Serious efforts to arrest the remaining gang members and recovery of their remaining operational weapons are in progress,” a source said.
