Last night Croatia for the first time in the country history booked a place in the World Cup final by beating a decorated English side. Croatia had also played a combined 360 minutes to the final, a feat never before achieved in football. But that's not all, here are three things you probably don't know about three Croatian warriors.

1. Luka Modric
On December 8, 1991, during the Balkan Wars, violent Serbian militia stormed Modrici, a small village near the Velebit mountains in northern Dalmatia and wrought terror on Croatian families who hadn't escaped.
One of those caught in the crossfire was Luka Modric Snr, who was walking his cattle up an abandoned street when he was cornered by a group of Serbians who brutally executed him along with five other locals.
Modric was 6 years old. His family became refugees, in a warzone Croatia . He had to live as a refugee in his home.
He grew up to the sound of grenades exploding.
Coaches said he was too weak and too shy to play football. Luka Modric just led Croatia its first ever World Cup final .

2. Rakitic
The Barcelona Man played with a fever. His body temperature was about 36 degree yet he played 120 minutes of the Titanic battle and even captained Croatia after Modric was subbed off.

3. Mario Mandzukic
As a child Mario Mandzukic and his family fled to Germany during the war. He learned how to play football in Germany before returning to Croatia after his country had gained independence.
The Balkan Wars changed lives and led to chain of events that culminated in their victory against England surpassing the 1998 golden generation that made it to the semi finals. Right now, they can only dream for a nation with 4.2 million in population and scars from the past.
