Electric vehicle (EV) is known as a new concept in the auto market with a lot of advantages as environmental friendliness or reducing fuel consumption. While EVs are in high demand in developed countries, they are not very popular in Nigeria. The following might be the reasons why: 1. Range Anxiety When driving electric cars, drivers always have to worry about when and where they should have their car's battery charged up, otherwise, they cannot arrive at their destination because of the car’s insufficient charge. This makes Nigerian feel not only inconvenient but also dissatisfied. Electric vehicle is known as a new concept 2. Charging time trauma For gasoline or diesel cars, Nigerian drivers need just five minutes to full fill up the gas tank. In contrast, they must spend at least 4 to 6 hours to get the EVs fully charged. Besides, it takes them a lot of time to find a commercial charging station on the road. 3. Short supply of electricity Nigeria is a country which is short of electricity while electric vehicles spent a large deal of electric power. This is also one of the most important reasons preventing electric vehicles from being manufactured or imported in the country. Nigeria is short of electricity 4. Higher prices An electric vehicle is more expensive than a gas car. Normally, an affordable EV starts from as low as $30,000 and go as high as $40,000 while a luxury EV can cost up to $80,000. Most average income Nigerian cannot afford such price tag. An electric vehicle is more expensive than a gas one 5. Maintenance matters It’s true that EVs drivers do not need engine oil like gas cars users do. However, when it comes to maintenance, there are not many experts having the capability to repair electric cars, especially in Nigeria. That’s why EVs seems to be not welcomed in the country.
