As the political variables come into shape for the 2019 general elections, different political alliances seem to spring up daily. Political gladiators are in constant wrangglings in the bid to outmanoevre one another therefore, we are constantly treated to diverse twists and intrigues. But something seems oddly familiar doesn't it? To all these there seems a sense of déjà vu, a circus we have seen before then all together being repeated and shoved down the throat of the unsuspecting spectators.
Prior to the 2015, general elections, it started with the ignominious letter of a certain ex President, blasting and labelling the sitting President, as clueless, ineffective and unfit to rule the nation. Then a popular preacher who was a known praise singer of the government at that time, made an about face, to begin constant verbal assaults and tirades on the formal President. Anything familiar yet? Then came an upsurge in the terrorist activities all over the country such as never been witnessed in the history of the nation till then. This was followed by a splintering within the ruling party which culminated in the formation of the N-PDP a renegade group which coalesced with the most prominent opposition parties to form an unstoppable political movement that swept most states and the Aso-Rock in particular.
Now you are understanding, aren't you? That the same things seem to be happening all over again is highly omenious ; It appears, the script writers in the Nigerian political scene have found a winning formula, a weakness of some sort on the part of the electorate to fall for the same plot over and over again, a weakness to vote not based on pedigree or obvious intellectual acumen but etno-religious sentiments, as well as political affiliations with major political parties.
While the political elite have deem it fit to repackage rotten sawdust to sell to unsuspecting Nigerians in the form of another reformed political movement, the onus lies on us to reject such subterfuge in its entirety and chose better alternatives. This is not just to ensure better lives for ourselves, but the unborn ones who will enjoy, or suffer the consequences of our actions-and inactions.
