Fair and fair election in Nigeria is a myth. No matter how transparent INEC is, there will be criticism to its credibility.

Power should belong to the people and not some money bag and hoodlums. Blockchain technology (please this is not about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies) can be added to our electoral process to ensure security of votes. Here are few pros about use of technology in voting.

PROS
1. POWER BELONG TO THE PEOPLE
As with the spirit of democracy, the power of vote belongs to the people. No Organization or person in any capacity can alter results. No more power advantage to ruling party or who has the most money to spend.

2: ELIMINATE DUPLICATE VOTES
padding and duplication of votes will be impossible. Not even the best hacker can alter a Blockchain ledger due to its method of encryption.

3: TRANSPARENCY
this is the most transparent system of processes where every vote can be seen in real time updates.

4: VOTE FROM ANYWHERE
you can be at the comfort of your home and vote without the risk of thugs and ballot snatching. Just you, your phone or computer.

5: DATABASE INTEGRATION
it is no news that mobile network, medical records banks and National database are not integrated. Blockchain technology can integrate all database to create an extra layer of security to ensure that only eligible voters can vote.

6: DISENFRANCHISEMENT
underage voters and disenfranchisement in general will be a thing of the past.

7: REALTIME RESULT
results are seen in REALTIME. There will be no place for behind the hood magic.

8: VERIFICATION
with the integration of all database records, which includes facial recognition, fingerprint and localized address, verification process can be privileged.

9: DISTRIBUTED LEDGER
This is the main feature of Blockchain technology. These votes records can be captured in a string of layered encryption and distributed to every miner. To manipulate the system you must have to contact every miner around the world and ask that they simultaneously edit the records (also note they have no visible home address laying down for your viewing)

What do you think about BLOCKCHAIN to our electoral process?

Please comment below if you have a few ideas why this may or may not work in Nigeria.

Thanks.
