Far from the tightly controlled media messaging and burly security guards of Microsoft’s E3 showcase, an Italian press advert has just revealed what appears to be the angular shape and multi-functionality of a new ‘slim’ Xbox 360. Check it out.

The games industry has been awash with rumours of just such a unit ever since Sony launched the PS3 Slim and sales started catching up on the Xbox 360. Earlier reports even showed what was supposed to be the compact innards of the device too, while others speculated about what it would do. Microsoft remained resolutely silent throughout, though.

They’re still keeping quiet at the E3 too, where yesterday’s big Kinect expo was locked down tighter than gnat’s chuff. Fortunately no such measures have prevented Microsoft Italy from spilling all the beans. Here we go then,

Assuming that all of this is not some kind of giant wind-up, the New Xbox 360 is both more slender and more angular than any of its predecessors. It’s new form has a slightly menacing air about it, in fact. Otherwise the Italian ad confirms that it has all the bits inside that should have been included all along – a whopping 250GB hard drive and built-in Wi-Fi compatibility included. Needless to say it’s fully compatible with ‘Kinect’ too.

Beyond that we’re as much in the dark about price/release date as we are with Kinect itself.
