Let’s examine the word righteousness under the two Testaments and find out its standing in both Testaments. Righteousness in the Old Testament is regarded as the righteousness of the Law, which implies that it is righteousness obtainable by observing or keeping the law. So one is declared righteous based on his ability to keep the entire laws and as the system stipulates one is required to keep all and a failure to keep one means a failure to keep all (James 2:10, 4:17). In that case, the righteousness of the law is regarded as “the doing righteousness” (Romans 10:5) and as a matter of fact no one under the face of this sun was able to keep those laws at the same time until Jesus Christ came and became the end to the law (Romans 10:4).

He became the end to the law in that He came and fulfill the requirements of the law for us and in us (Matthew 5:17 – 18, John 19:30, Romans 8:4). Obviously, this kind of righteousness is placing a demand on people who do not have the ability to fulfill the laws hence the massive flaws in the system (Exodus 19:5). Instead of a blessing it became a heavy load on the side of the people (Acts 15:7 – 10), what was meant to produce right standing in the life of the people became a means for hypocrisy. One time, a certain fellow came to Jesus and asked rhetorically “Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? And Jesus listed out to him the things contained in the laws and he was proud to claim his mastery ability in observing them.

Then Jesus said to him “Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.” (Luke 18:22). This shows that those who practice the laws always lack one thing and in the case of this young man, his response to this statement shows that he does not love his neighbours though he claimed to love them. No one under the conduct of the laws was able to keep them and as a result of that, people were kept far away from God. The stiffness of the demands of the law made the people to become debtors before God (Romans 4:4). Because they depended on their effort to accomplish the requirements of the law, but the more they try harder in their effort, the more they find out that they are bankrupt and in fact needed help, because of the weakness in their flesh.

I am afraid that your entire premise is faulty and so your conclusion is wrong and here is the simple reason why. undecided

Like the Old Covenant, the New Covenant, Jesus Christ is a Law unto those who are live in the Kingdom of God. The New Covenant comes complete with its own set of blessings, curses, seals, promises, ritual, and commandments , and domain - much like the Old Covenant, and it is through accepting and obeying the teachings and commandments of the Law, Jesus Christ, that one is able to attain the promises specified by the Law. According to the Law Himself, it is those who accept and obey His commandments that love Him and in them He and the Father will make their home in. undecided

In both the Old and New Covenant, God lays down the same, basic demands on those who would choose Him..

* Be ye Holy even as God is Holy
* Seek ye (first) God's Righteousness

Ofcourse in both cases, holiness is a step necessary before seeking God's righteousness since God is a Holy God and His Righteousness only for those who are holy(not slaves to sin). undecided

Both Laws that God's righteousness which ought to be the ultimate goal of every follower is only obtainable through submission to (trusting) and obedience of the teachings and commandments of God as laid out in the respective Law/Covenant. The Old covenant followers were, and still are, required to submit to and obey the Law of Moses, whereas the New Covenant followers of Jesus Christ are required to submit to and obey the commandments of Jesus Christ, the Law in the Kingdom of God. undecided

Is "Righteousness" Not About the Doing of That Which is Right and Good? So there are No Different Rightnesses,

grin Thank you for Speaking the Truth and giving One Testament by joining what people wrongly call the old testament with what they wrongfully call the new testament

Wrong, Brother! They Never Wanted to Keep The Law even right from when they left Egypt, They were A Very Disobedient And Stubborn People. Exodus 16:4

"Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no."

Did they pass this simple Test of Obedience? No, They Failed Spectacularly and Woefully!

Joyfulguy:

Then Jesus said to him “Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.” (Luke 18:22). This shows that those who practice the laws always lack one thing and in the case of this young man, his response to this statement shows that he does not love his neighbours though he claimed to love them.

Wrong!

It is Written

"Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. Proverbs 29:18

Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. Psalm 119:165.

But this man did not have these things, why? Because Another important element or requirement was missing and Jesus Showed him and us what that was! It's as simple as that.

Joyfulguy:

No one under the conduct of the laws was able to keep them and as a result of that, people were kept far away from God. The stiffness of the demands of the law made the people to become debtors before God (Romans 4:4). Because they depended on their effort to accomplish the requirements of the law, but the more they try harder in their effort, the more they find out that they are bankrupt and in fact needed help, because of the weakness in their flesh.

Wrong!

Romans 10:3 reiterates what Exodus 16:4 Complained About and All the Prophets Complained About, which is that they Put Away The Rightness and Righteousness of God from themselves to take up Unrightness and Unrighteousness (which they called rightness or righteousness) as their own way.

"For they being ignorant (Ignoring what God Hath Said) of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God."
