2019: The Knot Abia North Must Tie Now - Okechukwu Agwu [MUST READ] by Metrixnews: 11:36am On Jul 24, 2018
It is innate on every being to lay a foundation that houses a good company, relationship and association. A relationship that will enhance us, bring out the best in us and make us the beautiful bride every suitor vigorously seek for marriage. From childhood, we start dreaming of becoming adults someday, marry a good wife/husband and live happily with our family.

The quality of characters and individuals around us tells chains of tales on whom we are. "Show me your friend and I will tell you whom you are" goes the popular saying. The people around us have a very significant influence on our disposition, worldview and general approach to issues of life entirely.

For the people of Abia North my beloved senatorial zone, at the risk of sounding immodest, we appear to have been jinxed under the grip of some undesirable and self serving elements who do not feel any iota shame or a pinch of self guilt at brazenly representing the people in the audacious breach of whatever oath they took. They have ridiculed and made jest of the word "representation" to its foggiest meaning, gradually making it look like a family meal ticket on our collective patrimony.

It is not in doubt that for any challenge man is confronted with, lies a solution. That is why God is called all compassionate. He is rich in mercy, abundant in love and sufficient in kindness. For every Goliath, there is a David and for every Pharaoh, there is a Moses. Oh God of heaven, thou art incomparable with any man!

For the myriad of visionless and near absent, at best ghost representation inflicted on the heart of our people, there is one vessel God has sent to come and set us free, dry our tears and restore the glory of our land. He is Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu MON (Miri Riri Enyi) the former governor of our dear state.

He is not only endowed with capacity and capability of changing the heart rending narratives in our zone but his is years of experience backed with indispensable achievements scattered all over the state for all to see.

His administrative dexterity is uncommon. His business acumen is hard to find. His heart overflows with the milk of empathy for his people, for the poor, for the downtrodden.

To begin with, Abia witnessed an unprecedented revival and total turn around in his eight years stay as the helmsman in the state. When Miri Riri Enyi came on board, hundreds of communities had no electricity and pipe-borne water. School buildings were dilapidated and abandoned and in total comatose; facilities in existing health institutions were insufficient, while those available had no operable staff and equipment. The State Teaching Hospital was like a cottage hospital, not to talk of the palpable state of fear that gripped the heart of citizens, occasioned by frightening insecurity and criminality.

Enyimba FC that later became African champion was nothing short of a community league bereft of dreams, vision and potency to face any competition. In 2001/2002 season it won the national League and Challenge Cup. In 2002/2003 it won the league back to back. The next target was the African Champions Cup, which they won for Nigeria for the first time in 38 years in 2003. Who made it possible?

Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu and his team worked assiduously to reposition the state and make it the economic hub of Nigeria, nay Africa. Even a blind man could see the transformation of the state from obscurity to global pre-eminence. He took Abia State to every nook and cranny of the universe, attracting investors and other partners in development, who brought in their investments with confidence, since the challenge of insecurity has been frontally dealt with.

Kalu security model that recorded no single case of kidnapping throughout his eight years in office became toast of the town, governors copying and implementing his model in their various states.

Throughout Kalu's tenure there was no single industrial action by workers in the state. He maintained a harmonious relationship with the workers, contrary the what we see today in Abia where virtually all sectors are on strike. Despite the backlog of salaries he met on ground, he achieved stability in the payment of salaries, gratuity and pension. Some of these workers are still in service till date and can attest to this laudable feat.

Little wonder some unscrupulous elements dissipate their energy and resources they should put in more useful ventures to pursue a vain PHD (pull him down) vendetta project. They are intimidated by the track record of the man with unmatchable popularity.

A man so cosmopolitan, well traveled, very exposed, loved, cherished and accepted even beyond African continent. With his business conglomerates dotted across Africa, Asia, Europe and America, Kalu unlike other scavengers of stomach infrastructure is a man of sufficiency, deep pocket, divinely blessed and overwhelmingly favoured with good things of life.

Our own OUK is in politics to serve and bring a lease of life to his people. God has given him enough to eat and drink for the number of days He has for him. He is a visible departure from those who are in the business of politics to plunder, amass the people's patrimony and corruptly fill their pockets while leaving the people in impoverishment and far worse than they met them. What else can one describe as the mother of all wickedness?

OUK has penned his name in gold with several people oriented projects he undertook as the best governor the state has produced since creation.

His urban renewal projects earned him "the action governor" by the then president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. The roads, the economic turnaround, the schools, the health facilities etc even with the meager resources from the federal allocation speak volumes about the man Abia North needs at the moment.
