Suspected kidnapper arrested in Ibadan

THE police in Oyo State have arrested a suspected kidnapper while trying to kidnap a five-year old pupil of Juniors International School, Oluyole Estate, Ibadan.

The suspect, Tope Jegede, was arrested with the girl while trying to escape through a motorcycle popularly called okada.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olabisi Okuwobi, who confirmed the arrest in Ibadan, on Tuesday, said the girl was kidnapped by three suspected kidnapers while returning from school with a neighbour, Mrs Olajumoke Olaore, at Aba Igbira, Oluyole area, on June 9.

According to her, one Jude Oni had reported the incident at the Oluyole Police Station.

Okuwobi said three armed men, on a motorcycle, had blocked the woman, dragged her out of the vehicle and injured her on the head.

She said the suspected kidnappers had forced her out of the car before they sped off with the girl.

The PPRO said some sympathisers, who came to her rescue when she raised the alarm, pursued the suspects, adding that luck ran out on them when they lost control and fell on Adeoyo State Hospital road, Ibadan.

She added that one of the suspects, Tope, was arrested with the girl, while others escaped with the motorcycle.
