The Government of Ogun State has empowered 3,000 rural women with 30,000 Boiler chicken in Ijebu-Ode, Ilaro, and Abeokuta, in the second phase of its Noiler Empowerment Programme.

The State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga, who disclosed this at a programme across the three Senatorial Districts in the State, said the initiative was to improve the capacity of women, especially the rural ones.

She further disclosed that the government embarked on the second phase after the success of the first phase in April, where 1,000 women were empowered with 10,000 broiler chicken.

Onanuga, therefore, urged the women to key into various agricultural programs specifically designed for them in the State, adding that the empowerment programme is an opportunity to improve the protein of their families and in the long run, add to the food security in the state.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Peju Adebajo said the seven weeks old broiler birds distributed was a cross breed between Broiler and Layers, which makes them stronger and easier to rear just like the local breeds.

when will the governor of Enugu remember us naa? Even Edo state and some other states have keyed into this great initiative.Every family especially those living in the rural areas should have nothing less than 10 Noiler birds per family for additional income,meat and egg production.This will be a great way to scale up nutrition and income for these women

This is not commendable. State govt need to step up their game to empower Nigerians.

What is the essence of giving them chicks without providing access to market?

Organize these women into Clusters
Teach them best practices and give them chicks
Link them to market that they can supply at guaranteed prices

Did they also provide them feed?

Where will they get the funds to feed these chickens for the remaining 9 weeks to maturity?
