Google Station is a service that allows Google partners to roll out Wi-Fi hotspots in public places by providing software and advice on hardware to turn fibre connections into Wi-Fi.

Google Station for Nigeria was launched in partnership with 21st Century Technologies; a Nigerian fiber network provider.

After India, Indonesia, Thailand and Mexico, Nigeria is the fifth country to get Google Station. And Google Station Nigeria roll out sites will include, markets, transport hubs, shopping malls, universities, and more.

The Google Nigeria plans to reach more than 10 million Nigerian with free Internet access in five cities in Nigeria which includes Lagos, Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Ibadan and Abuja by 2019

According to the Google Nigeria Director, said the initiative would help address  affordability as well as access to data and broadband penetration. There are huge possibilities of the initiative helping the country to jump the 30 per cent broadband target set by the Federal Government for this year, “knowing full well that a World Bank report claimed that there is direct correlation between broadband and GDP growth.
