Ikoko akofo(lamentation of a broken pot) this epistle is centered around child molestation and the psychological trauma .. Just as the theme of this epistle emphasis around a broken pot which literally offers little or zero use to its owner same way a child is rendered psychologically nugatory and in efficacious after he/she has been messed up and molested right from a tender age..
Hardly will i go a day on social media without coming across news about child abuse and molestation ranging from rape, to attempted-rape, child trafficking, child sedomy,.. child molestation has always been around since ages and its irrespective of background, status or race.
A quick reminder to everyone that child molestation isn't just centered around less privilege or 3rd world countries are stories of Oprah Winfrey who openly admit of been a victim of child molestation same as our Nigerian literature icon chimamanda adichie who also got sexually abused at a tender age leaving in their heart a big psychological scar that might never heal..
We wonder why most relationships and marriages this days fails to last longer than a twinkle of an eye and we most times blame it on incompatibility or infidelity not knowing that most people inside a relationship/marriage suffer medically from "post traumatic stress disorder" which is as a result of what they have encountered At a stage in life therfore been psychologically derailed and emotionally intertwined with the disorder making it impossible to move on..
Statistically 7 out of 10 children in Africa has been molested or attempted to making it a total high of 70%out of 100. And we sometimes question why most people we come across behave mentally unstable or why this days breakups and divorce are seen as norm.
Now this brings me to the question, who is to be blamed for child abuse and molestation?
Is it the parent who carelessly abandoned the wards making it possible to be a victim to a pedophile? Or couples who has physical alteration and combat right in front of their wards therefore making them see it as a way of life in marriage and relationship, or the cajoled and brainwashed religious parent who places their spiritual leaders above the well-being of their wards thereby making them an easy prey for abuse, or rather it is the socially exposed parent who believe in the need to make their wards technologically social thereby exposing them to adults content on social media, or maybe it is the work-oriented parent who is so passionate about traveling around the world all in the name of business therefore neglecting their wards, or perhaps it might be the god-like parent who restrict the parent to child relationship thereby making it impossible for their wards to speak up when going through the ordeal, or lastly could it be our society who stigmatize every victim of molestation therefore making Them an outcast and creating the fear of been rejected in the environment..
Which ever it is, there's a need for each and every one going through this, irrespective of the age to speak up to the appropriate quarters so as to eradicate the belief that victims stand no chance of speaking up so also there's a need to sensitize parents to be closer to their wards in other to be aware of whatever they are going through and at the same time be vigilant of any strange change in mood or behavior...
