The Naija music scene keeps blowing up every day (1000 degree Celcius on a steady). Upcoming artists, you guys shouldn't be sleeping. It takes a lot of hard work to rise to the top of the food chain but a blink of an eye to fall like a pack of cards. How do you want to be several years from now? It starts by taking the steps listed below.

Becoming a successful artist lies in several characteristics and traits you need to possess. Not just that, you also need to apply professionalism in your works. Those are the only things which can stand you out. In becoming successful in the Nigerian music scene, you need to-

Choose a genre...
Erase the notion that you need to be versatile. Yes, it is important to have that ability but your comfort zone is the best bet when it comes to music. In Nigeria, you get zero recognition for been versatile but get 100 for dishing out a hit. So do not be a jack of all trades as you start out your music career. Be in your zone. Choose your GENRE...

Practice...
You cannot be the best if you do not practice. Practice makes perfect. It is necessary

Have a Source of Income
Except you have millions of naira notes stacked up somewhere, my guy, you need to hustle. You need a source of income to achieve your goals of hitting the pinnacle in the music business. Studio time ain't for free, promotions help you grow faster when you have funds than when you use free channels. Finally on this, If you decide to quit music, your source of income will be your plan B. Not everyone will hit the top of the food chain (frankly speaking). Be wise and hustle.

Originality
Originality is a major component for being successful. Without it, you are not an artist. Learn to be original. There are no use sampling other people's beat and songs ( very rampant these days).

Record Record Record...
After putting the top tips in place, hit the studio. This is where your artistic trait comes into play. It is not enough to write a good song. It only is, when it has been mastered. Be resilient and have a good attitude to work. Your producer becomes your go-to-guy for this stage. Allow him to own the studio while you own the track.

Make a Video...
Audio tracks are a good place to start your career but we need a video too. A video gives us (fans) what we miss from the audio. viz-a-viz, a relation with the plot, lyrics, output, etc. Some people hit the download button for an audio track after watching the video. You need one. Do not say I didn't tell you.

Look up the source for the rest of the tips. Upcoming acts, attaining the position of an A-List artist is no child's play. It is a serious business. Get prepared!
