His landmark Fort Lauderdale property, one of the biggest in the city, has eight bedrooms and nine bathrooms arranged in separate wings for family, guests, and staff – and plenty of chandeliers and other luxury touches

Mr Huizenga bought it in 2005 from Alamo Rent A Car founder Michael Egan for $15.8 million and lived there until he died aged 80 after a long battle with cancer

Beautiful furniture adorns the huge home including exquisite wooden cabinets, colorful couches and armchairs, massive chandeliers, and a dining table for more than a dozen people.

One side of the house even features a sitting room flushed with sunlight through windows along its walls and most of the ceiling.

‘The family wing is complete with offices, bedrooms, a private kitchen and family room. The central portion of the house can accommodate a party of virtually any size,’ realtors Kelly Drum said.

‘The guest wing and staff quarters permit the enjoyment of the home by others while not disturbing the primary residents.’

Other features include an electronic locking system, hurricane-proof windows, emergency generators, an elevator, and 600ft of waterfront with docking for boats of up to 140ft.

The sprawling 1.5 acre estate boasts incredible views of Fort Lauderdale’s most prestigious suburb, Rio Vista, and includes a pagoda overlooking a swimming pool.

Kelly Drum said it already had expressions of interest from corporate executives and entrepreneurs for the home, which is a sightseeing stop on tours along the New River.

Mr Huizenga was also known for owning Florida’s three biggest sports teams – the Florida Marlins baseball team, Florida Panthers ice hockey team and the NFL Miami Dolphins.
