The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is considering drafting a list of fall-back options for presidential aspirants seeking the ticket of the party ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Cources hinted Daily Trust yesterday that the option ‘B’ was aimed at pacifying aspirants, who would lose the presidential primaries.

Our correspondent gathered that the party was walking a tight rope following influx of top politicians and increasing number of its presidential aspirants which now stands at 15.

Daily Trust reports that the choice of presidential candidate has become a difficult task for the party following the return of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State, former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Senate President Bukola Saraki ostensibly to contest the ticket.

But insiders told our correspondent that the party was scheming to ensure serving governors and senators in their first terms, were granted automatic tickets to run for a second term if they lost the presidential primaries.

A foundation member of the party from the North told Daily Trust that some of the presidential aspirants were also likely to be given the governorship tickets of their states to run if they lose the presidential primaries.

“The aspirants have been made to understand that the agenda is to unseat the APC government. So they have agreed to support whoever emerges at the primaries.
“But the party in its wisdom is working out a machinery to ensure no one is aggrieved at the end of the day,” he said.

He revealed that the party planned to allot ministerial, ambassadorial and other slots as compensation to other aspirants, who would lose at the primaries.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan in a statement Saturday, said, “The PDP has taken note of all concerns raised by highly respected and committed leaders of the party, as it concerns accommodation of interests as well as new alignments, and has since taken extensive measures that would ultimately ensure that no person or group is, in anyway, short-changed.

“All members must therefore, dispel every fear in relation to control of our structure as well as processes for selection of candidates for election, especially on the choice of our presidential candidate, as such will be handled with the strictest adherence to the principles of internal democracy and zero tolerance for imposition.”

So far, those interested in the party’s presidential ticket are; former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State; Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State; former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau; former Minister of Special Duties, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki; former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido and founder of Baze University, Sen. Datti Baba-Ahmed.

Others are former governor of Kaduna State, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi; Senate President Bukola Saraki; former governor of Kano State Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; former Senate President David Mark; Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State; Chief Alfa Muhammed Oliver and former governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke.

Whatever it will take to maintain peace after the convention should be done. That will be the beginning of their success. We have seen the worst of PPD in 16 years, but find it almost impossible to survive the alternative of APC in just 3 years. Hell will let lose should APC return in 2019.

Dedicating this FTC to my man- Bukola Saraki ....the next....

Sharing Nigeria’s fortunes before winning an election (that’s not even sure). Recycling the unproductive pattern of behavior of the past where expertise and professionalism is relegated for man-know-man(ism) and gross incompetence. Way to go Nigerians. Keep supporting failures and dying for a failed system. This way, we are set to become the worst yet resourceful failed state on the continent.

E no kuku concern me. I get paid anyways. grin

And duke is the least serious candidate and his name was mentioned last.

Meanwhile, if thief atiku lose, he will be given governorship light paper ticket,
If lamido, makarfi, turaki and shekarua lose, they will also be given governorship light paper ticket.

PDP is a joke.

PDP should jus gather together and unanimously nominate Atiku, accord him automatic ticket, back him to contest come 2019!

He's the only serious and reliable candidate to go head to head with buhari and send him back to Daura.

Kwankwaso is the only man that can defeat Buhari hands down in the North West and North East

Kwankwaso has a cult followership in the North.

Atiku will create more panic than others. I see him as the only desperate person in PDP as Buhari is in APC. He will fight dirty even if he does not win. Buhari will fight to protect himself only, thereby creating chances for other good strikers in PDP to secure their seats other than presidency. Buhari wil need to rig massively and maybe rigging himself out with Atiku contesting. Nigerian election is not idea based. Otherwise Pat Utomi will never lose election. This election requires one who has massive wealth. There is vote buying and that was how Amaechi bought the primary ticket for Buhari in 2014. Only rich people who are few in Nigeria will vote for idea-filled candidates. The others will vote based on where their mouth is. PDP will stand a chance of winning most of the elective positions if Atiku is fielded. He is the only one capable of doing the pig fight with Buhari. PDP should damn the criticism of critics. It is unlawful to be lawful in an unlawful society.

You are still a kid then because you never knew what happened from 1999 - 2003. Nigeria economy nearly collapsed, Atiku, Adenuga and OBJ fighting everyday, unlawful impeachments here and there.
EFCC arresting lawmakers at the steps of NA. Assassination of prominent politicians.
Fuel price more than 200% increase from #20 1999 to #65 as at 2003 - including contaminated kerosene which was blowing up innocent citizens while they cook peacefully in their homes.
Exchange rate doubled from #65 Naira to #145 which gave rise to higher inflation rate as bag of rice sold then for 3k doubled to 8k. Job loss and the likes, militancy and kidnapping became a new word around Nigeria discussion circle.
I think it became better the second term though when OBJs policy began to settle in.
If Atiku took over the helms then, OBJ would have easily passed as the worst president ever.

PDP has nothing to offer

while PMB and Osibanjo are going everywhere talking about their slow but steady sustainable development project s, PDP are bragging about d number of decampees they got.

same as

when Fayose was only taking about rigging and federal power during ekiti governorship campaigns, Fayemi was campaigning with his previous achievement and future plans to make ekiti great.

The only plan PDP crooks has for Nigeria is just to snatch power.
