In a bid to check air pollution in Rivers State, drivers with vehicles emitting smoke would now be arrested and made to pay fine.
This is according to an 8-point communiqué issued at the end of a meeting between the Special Adviser to Rivers State Governor on Pollution Control, Nwuke Anucha and the Port Harcourt Air Quality Working Group, and made available to The Tide, last Wednesday.

The communiqué stated that the device that reads as well as monitors vehicles’ emission was already with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) for test running.
According to the communiqué, the Rivers State Government had collaborated with the Butchers Association of Nigeria in the state to make available environment-friendly machines for roasting of animals to reduce pollution in the abattoirs across the state.
The communiqué also encouraged residents to log on to www.rivspollutioncontrol.com to get reliable information on air quality in the state.
