President Goodluck Jonathan has once again assured Nigerians that his administration will bequeath to Nigerians transparent good governance.

President Jonathan was speaking yesterday when he received a delegation from Ondo State, led by Governor Olusegun Mimiko, at State House, Monday.

“We will do our best within the period available to give transparent, good governance to Nigerians”, he assured the delegation.

The President reiterated his determination to ensure that all votes in forthcoming national elections count, adding that he believed all Governors were supportive of the electoral reforms that are necessary for acceptable elections.

President Jonathan also said he would keep faith with the good programmes initiated by the Late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who, he said, meant well for Nigeria.

He thanked the Ondo State delegation for the visit.

Earlier, Governor Olusegun Mimiko had said their visit was to condole with the President on the death of former President Yar’Adua, congratulate him on assuming the mantle of leadership, and to assure him of their unflinching support.

“Your choices of distinguished individuals for Vice President and INEC Chairman shows to all Nigerians that God is leading you in the right path, and we pledge our support to your administration”, Governor Mimiko said.

Mimiko who later spoke to State House correspondents on the purpose of the visit of the delegation to Jonathan said “We come to see Mr. President with a powerful delegation from Ondo state, a delegation of first class Obas, religious leaders, women leaders and business leaders, essentially one to commiserate with Mr. President on the demise of our erstwhile president, President Umaru Yar’Adua.

“We as a people in Ondo state benefited immensely from his rule of law mantra and you recall how the late president allowed justice to take its course in the case of the election petition in Ondo State that singular act brought peace, progress and joy to the hearts of our people in Ondo State and so we especially believe that we must show appreciation to the late president and so we come on this condolence visit.

“And number two has also come to congratulate Mr. President one for the able way he handled the country in the days of uncertainty and two since he became the substantive president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and some of the decisions he has taken so far, especially regarding the choice of the chairman of INEC and we have also come to give him the message and that for us in Ondo State, we thank God for the grace in his life and we believe that God has brought him for some purpose for us in Ondo State, we believe that his major challenge and that history will judge him by his ability to carry out through the electoral reform and the votes of the people in this country must count, until then we can begin to talk about development and so we made it cleared to him that for us the people of Ondo State we are with him 100 per cent, all the way, in the electoral reform and also we came to encouraged him generally.

Other members of the delegation were Bishop Bolanle Gbonigi; Bishiop Igbokoyi, chairman Ondo State Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN); Oba Olateru Olagbegi, Olow of Owo; Oba Victor Aladejo; Michael Ade-Ojo, chairman of Elizade Motors; Ruben Fasoranti; Dorcas Adefesobi and Iyabo Akinnagbe.

Gbonigi according to the governor also prayed for President Jonathan for God to continue to guide him through and give him the enablement to lead the country aright.
