INSIGHT: What Make Nigerian Youths Entrepreneurial And Lazy? by Penaldofan(m): 6:17am On Aug 14, 2018
Ask any adult or people of older generation to describe the millennial youths in three words. You are likely to be awash with laziness, disrespect and immorality within a second. These words have been used and still being adopted in portraying today’s youths despite the economic challenges being experienced across the world.

Older generation believes that majority of today’s youths only responsibility is to have fun and they are to blame for their financial constraint because they are too lazy to find jobs and engage in entrepreneurial activities. On the contrary, the youths cannot be engaged in positive activities in an environment where older generation failed to provide enabling framework.

Recently, media reported that President Muhammadu Buhari said Nigerian youths are lazy during a Business Forum in London, United Kingdom. Our team of analysts monitored the trending of the statement on the Internet and came up with entrepreneurship laziness and readiness concepts.

By entrepreneurship laziness, we coded Nigerians’ reactions on the President’s comment into lazy youths, Nigerian youths and president speech. Seeking of business or entrepreneurship information, practice and opportunities represent entrepreneurship readiness concept. The two concepts were modeled with the Nigeria’s 2018 Global Entrepreneurship Index scores for institutional and individual factors. Nigeria’s institutional factor is 31% while individual factors is 66% out of the expected 100%, signifying better individual framework than institutional one. This connects with the fact that government has not done much to enhance Nigerians’ entrepreneurship pursuit especially the youths.continue

Nigerian youths are not lazy infact, we are hard working. We are not just financially and morally motivated. A lot of youths have business ideas but no money to carry them out.
