And that is going to be so for some hours to come as he led Atletico Madrid to an infamous 2018 EURO Super Cup win over city rivals and defending champions, Real Madrid by 4-2 in an explosive football match played yesterday in Estonia.

The Atletico striker has now come out to declare: "This team can beat any team with the kind of courage and desire that exists in it." He this said on the back of the dethronement of Real Madrid as the UEFA Super Cup holders.

Two very important goals from Diego Costa contributed to a 4-2 extra-time victory against Champions League holders and city rivals Real Madrid in Tallinn on Wednesday. It was surely more than just that.

The game was a double glory one for   Diego Costa as he made history by scoring the fastest ever Super Cup goal after just 49 seconds in a sensational fashion.

Karim Benzema went on to equalise for Real Madrid 26 minutes later followed by a Sergio Ramos’ penalty which then put Madrid ahead with 29 minutes remaining in the game.

When everyone was already expecting the match to end in the usual way in favour of the defending champions, the man of the moment, Diego Costa turned things around once again as he scored the much needed equaliser to move the game into extra time.

Thereafter, it was Atletico Madrid all the way as Saul Niguez and Koke in that order, got the winning goals for their team thereby clinching a seventh title for head coach Diego Simeone who by the way was watching the game from the stands as a result of an earlier ban from the stands.

At the end of the game, Diego Costa had the following to say:

“It was a victory that we had been looking for a long time, I am very happy.”

“They won two finals against us, we wanted to win a European final against them,” he continued. “It was very important to get confidence ahead of the season.”
