Residents and youths of Shasa community in Akure metropolis, Ondo State, yesterday, stoned Police detectives for trying to rescue a suspected ritual killer from being set ablaze.
It was reported that the suspect, whose identity was unknown at press time, was nabbed by residents of the community on the Akure-Abuja Expressway, near Shasa Market, for carrying a big bag allegedly containing human parts.
Sources said the suspected ritual killer was loitering around the area, when some youths accosted him, asking him questions he could not give convincing responses to. However, when searched, incriminating items suspected to be human parts and charms were allegedly found inside the bag.
One of the eyewitnesses told newsmen: “When the people around found some items covered with blood in the bag, they started beating the man. As he was about to be set ablaze, policemen came to the scene and rescued him.” It was gathered that Police detectives from Oba Ile Police Division, who arrived the scene after a tip-off, were stoned while trying to whisk the suspect away from the scene.The Police detectives dispersed the crowd and whisked the suspect away.
