They've got a good point on the easy target part.

Sorry to say, they've got no point, although I understand it's your own opinion. My reason for saying this is that even in advanced countries, let's take the US as a case study, a special forces officer would always be on his/her military uniform while on daily routine activities with the name tag evidently attached to the uniform. The said special forces then change immediately there is need to go on a covert operation with clearly stated objective. The excuse given by the Nigerian SARS is lame.

Special units of other nations like the SWAT still wear regular police uniform when not on swat duties. They only assemble and kit up as swat when there is an emmergency. They don't even take their swat equipments home.

Even the SARS are not equipped to be called a special team. Someone will wear a Polo shirt and jeans grab an AK-47 with slippers and that's it. So what's the difference between them and the regular police force in naija if they both move around with same equipments.

All those people complaining up and down why they want to be transfer out of Lagos, are you guys only interested on the headline instead of the content. It was stated that they want to be transferred to another police unit. Hia nawa so nairaland has become roadside newspapers vendor.

The excuse given is very valid. The united states you used as an example is a society that works or perhaps strives to work for its people.

Nigeria on the other hand is a jungle where even armed robbers are better equipped both in Intel and weapons than the crime fighters. We should elevate beyond the days where we witness that the first response of our crime fighters at the sound of any gunshot is to disrobe and take to their heels.

The army wear uniform and no one attack them for that, they have integrity and they don't misbehave because they wear name tag , I feel safe on the road when its hard to differentiate btw robbers and police.

Yes not all police officer will wear name tag... Undercover unit is important in any security unit. We will still have those who wont put name tag.

Lagos is where they're known and recognised by the bad guys. For the ones who have served here.

Osinbajo and naivety in decision making. He is not yet matured to lead a complex nation like Nigeria. All this gragra will stop when reality of leadership hits him. I rest my case.

Personally, I think the SARS/FSARS Operatives should still wear the usual uniforms we recognize them with.. But they shouldn't go out on raids, and all divisional police headquarters should have the SARS/FSARS unit and they should only honour when a call is put through to them.
My Opinion.
their polos without name tags? It’s the dressing that allows them perpetrate gross evil on innocent citizens cause they know they can’t be properly identified.

SARS are not undercover officers. So their names and numbers should be visible. Or will someone on undercover operation be carrying an assault rifle. Setting up roadblocks and harrasing people that had misunderstandings with their girlfriends?

That is the lot of the average Nigerian... lazy brained and cowardly. You compel him to change the way things are done with a view to improving them and he rather abandons it all.

I experience it all the time in all my businesses. Employees will angrily leave the job rather than leave their comfort zones and absorb the pressure to improve. Politicians will rather dump their party affiliations rather than remain and fight to reform them and the ever lazy Nigerian youth will rather flee his country to the succor of societies that have been developed by the doggedness of their contemporary hosts.

Its a Nigerian thing. The police lack ideas and simply cannot see beyond its colonial era ideology of being a 'force' tool in the hands of the British overlords to subjagate the natives. Let them go and then recruit self educating, self motivated, patriots to take over. Good riddance.

Bro, do you realise that the SARS units have been operating since inception with T-Shirts? Can you provide evidence that shows that they have ever engaged in a face-off counter-attacks against armed robbers/bandits? If they could not do that while wearing T-shirts but instead resort into intimidating the citizens, then I stand on the fact that their excuse here is lame.

Very correct. But the reverse is the case. They even wear the SARS uniform to beer parlours and brothels. I think some even sleep with the SARS uniform on

Undercover officers would carry concealed weapons and dress as civilians to better ferret out intelligence. So many things happen in this country that don't make any sense, most especially within our civil and armed services.

What advantage is there in police officers toting automatic rifles while in mufti? So that they can commit crimes themselves and get away without been identified! Some times they've been mis-identified and gunned down as armed robbers by their fellow uniformed cops.

When you call a unit 'special' anti-robbery squad but all they specialise on is roaming the streets in mufti, extorting and killing young unarmed citizens, and carrying out private debt recovery services on behalf of unscrupulous companies/individuals. Aren't they supposed to be on standby to scramble when incidents of robbery are reported to their hotline?

Good governance is not rocket science it's just that our leaders are ignorant bastards whose only interest is self-aggrandizement and theft of public funds

Please explain how transfer from the SARS unit help their safety? Are they not still going to wear police uniform with their name tags? Will criminals not take revenge on them simply because they were transfered from the unit?

Although I do not agree with SARS wearing normal police uniform and walking the streets or manning check points, their excuses are lame.
If SARS stay within what their nomenclature suggests Special Anti-Robbery Squad, they would not have any problem, but when they start manning check points to intimidate and extort innocent citizens, then they breed hatred.

Abba Kyari and his team are doing a fantastic job. Beyond those intimidation of citizens which i'm strongly against, There is great need for those Sars guys.

With over 200 million population, its self evident that those Sars guys are understaffed, not well motivated, not well trained and backed in terms of Intel and gadgets.

Blame the system not the players if these guys interprets this move as suicide mission. You need to see these guys at night in the highways and low-ways doing their jobs while you peacefully sleep at nights cuddling your woman. They deserve our respects for the job they do.
