At the end of the free 05 grassroots medical outreach across the state, a total number of 2,236 eye surgeries were successfully carried out with Asaba in 0shimili south local government area alone recording 233 eye surgeries.
The number which was disclosed by the coordinator of Restore sight Africa Initiative ,Dr Ernest Ogbedo during the end of the 24th local government area visited so far for the medical outreach which took place at the mobile clinic of the Steven Keshi stadium Asaba commended the state Governor sen. Ifeanyi okowa and his wife Dame Edith 0kowa for their kind gesture towards Deltans.
He said that Cataracts eye disease which most people are being diagnosed of is very prominent with the elderly, diabetes people, people with untreated injury in the eyes, and people that applies local concosion to the eyes among others.
Dr 0gbedo who disclosed that cataracts is the leading course of blindness worldwide can be reversible it taken care of on time, encourage parents to always take their children and wards for yearly eye check up to reduce it.
He advised the beneficiaries to always put on their sunshades to enable them protect any contact with the eyes.
Speaking at the occasion, the wife of the state Governor, Dame Edith 0kowa enjoin the beneficiaries not to seize in thanking God for his grace over them and also thanked Dr Ogbedo and his medical team who worked round the clock to attend to such a great number of people, adding that Asaba been the state capital is times two to compare with the previous local government Areas visited so far.
Dame 0kowa who observed that the increase in the number of persons is not surprising as Asaba been the state capital and home for all Deltans and non Deltans alike, according to her, “God does not discriminate in Heaven, everybody is regarded as one with Haleluya been the only language. Adding that since they have received the physical sight, the need to receive spiritual sight, reconcile and rededicate their their lives to God in case they have not done yet.
Among the beneficiaries of the free surgeries were a 60 year old ljebusonma 0kolie, from lbusa who suffered a partial blindness for two to three years.she explained that the problem started when an unknown object hit her eyes while in the farm and since that day, life has been so difficult for her. For 44 year old Francis lbeagwa, blind in both eyes, from umuchu, in Anambra state, complained that the problem started since three years which made him to quit his kitchen utensils business for the wife alone to be managing.
Others include _70 year old John 0kocha from Asaba ,72 year old Theresa 0lise from kwale,, Nelson Ekpe ,25 years from “soko south who suffered pterygium eye disease over five years, 70 year old Benedicta 0konji from Asaba ,lkechukwu 0kolie 44 years 0zubulu in Anambra state, Angela 0ffor 70 years from 0kpanam who suffered partial blindness for two years, iloba 0konji 62 years, computer 0perator in Lagos before he relocated to Asaba due to the eye problem.
They all sing praises to God and thanked the governor’s wife and the medical team for coming to their rescue.
