The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the demolition of a building belonging to the musical maestro, Yinka Ayefele, in Ibadan, by agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Oyo state government.

In a statement issued Kola Ologbondiyan, the National Publicity Secretary in Abuja on Sunday, PDP described the demolishing of the building, said to worth N800 million and which houses Aiyefele’s Flash FM and his recording studio, in spite of a court order, as horrifying, wicked and speaks volume of the insensitivity of the perpetrators.

The PDP noted that Aiyefele’s building was demolished for allegedly singing songs which is believed to be at odds with the APC government – even when our Constitution grants freedom of speech, freedom of opinion and association with the within the ambit of the law.

The party alerted Nigerians of a new dangerous trend whereby the current clampdown on the media is now being extended to other public opinion moulders, including musicians and perhaps actors.

The main opposition party, therefore, called on all public-spirited groups and individuals and groups to condemn the emerging assault on free citizens for no just cause.

“Nigerians must, at all time, be free to hold and express their opinion, politically intermingle and aspire, as long as their actions are legal and within the ambits of our laws,” it stated.
