Less than 48hrs to the most anticipated Durbar Celebration in Ilorin which is scheduled for second day of this year Sallah, we can confirm that the celebrated American Rapper, songwriter, record producer, and entrepreneur, Shawn Corey Carter known professionally as Jay-Z, would be leading other numerous artistes to liven the historic event with musical performance.

According to reliable information, Mr Jay Z who holds the traditional title of Serikin Waka of Ilorin Emirate is already in town purposely for that event and would take part in all activities heralding it.


While responding to a question asked by our correspondence on if Jay Z would be in attendance for the event being a traditional title holder in the community, the chairman of the organising committee of that important occassion where over 500 horses would be rode, Engr. Suleiman Alapansapa affirmed that the American born rapper is already in town.



“Salam I want to assure u that he will be one of the leading artist that day In fact he was with me this morning I wanted him to lead the flag off this morning but he came a little bit late Be rest assured he is going to take us to memory lane.” Alapansapa wrote in his response.

Recalled that Sometime in 2006, American hip-hop mogul, Shawn “Jay Z” Carter, had a road in Illorin, Kwara state named after him when he visited the state. The honours was done to him by the then Governor of Kwara State, now Nigeria’s Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

During the trip to Ilorin, Jay-Z was also turbaned by the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari as ‘Serikin Waka’.
