A Case Study Between Venezuela And Nigeria by alrahmanonline(m): 8:44am On Aug 23, 2018
As at 2014, Nigeria and Venezuela had similar economic structure. Both were dependent on oil and failed to diversify their economies over the years

Both were consumer nations as they import most of what they need as such became slaves to the dollar

Both had strong subsidy issues

With the oil prize shocks of late 2014, both nose dived into recession due to shortage of foreign currency to meet their consumption demands

With the prudent stewardship of Buhari, Nigeria exited recession just under 2 years and is now experiencing positive growth, inflation is falling every month for over 1 and half years now

Venezuela on the other hand, is still neck deep into recession with hyper inflation

The government had to knock two zeros out of their currency by introducing new notes cus the old ones are now worthless

Buhari's full implementation of the TSA, blockage of various loopholes from where monies are been wasted or stolen, and investment in agriculture saved Nigeria from becoming a Venezuela.. Thank you Buhari for saving Nigeria

Nigeria was not in recession when this government took in May 2015. It was snail-speed reaction to issues and inept management of the economy that led to the recession.

Since then millions of jobs have been lost without the government creating much

Recession was inevitable irrespective of who was in power. Jonathan squandered all our oil revenue without saving a single kobo to absorb the oil shock. Okonjo Iweala herself made it very clear as far back as 2014 that we are heading towards recession if the fall in crude oil price continues.

Ignoramuses and lying demons everywhere.

There is no single socio-economic similarity between Nigeria and Venezuela.

For nearly 2 decades before your incompetent god took power, Nigeria was a major democratic proponent of free market economy. Many previously national monopolies were privatized. And policies were designed and deployed to build a robust economy that's private sector driven.

This is unlike Venezuela which is a socialist dictatorial state that leaned strongly towards communism.

Nowhere in your dumb propaganda did you make it clear that Venezuela is a socialist economy which is the major reason for its financial collapse. But I'm not surprised, after all, lies distortion and plain ignorance run in the dna of the average zombie.

OP, in as much as I agree with you that we share so many economic similarities with Venezuela, we must also make the distinction that we are not under any economic sanctions from the evil western countries. Venezuela is currently under very wicked economic sanctions imposed by US and the EU. The sanctions are similar to what crippled the economy of Zimbabwe. If not for the sanctions, Venezuela would have climbed out of recession just like us.

Is it not surprising that after 3 years (with a stably high crude output and increased oil prize) your god is still unable to get the GDP growth up to 2.3% - the same number you are now shamelessly distorting as a sign of recession"?

And while you're at it, can you also give us the quarterly GDP analysis of 2006/2007 and 2010/2011?

I am waiting for you liars and distorters of truth and history.

Venezuela is a welfarist state unlike Nigeria.
But do you know that in spite of their economic woes,Venezuela still have constant electricity, running water and no housing deficit.their major problem is food and household consumables due largely to the economic sanctions.

can't you understand English,
The economy shock started in august 2014 when the oil price were going down by October 2014-january2015, your ineffectual buffoon could not pay salary for 3 months.
Even when oil price was still $78.
The highest oil price buhari has ever receive is $68 and the lowest $30.
Argue it with your calculator.

Only a dunce will say fall in oil prices from about $65 in May 2915 to $28 by February 2016 combined with dropped in sales from 2 million barrel daily to a less than 700,000 barrels, celebrated on this forum, cannot cause recession in Nigeria.

1000 likes for you. When we say the cup is half filled the vultures say it is half empty. Venezuela with a population of less than 20% of that of Nigeria an with arguably the largest oil reserve in the world is in deep sh!t yet these vultures say Buhari has done nothing.

what did the lizard speed of GEJ do? He could not save a dime. He was even borrowing to pay salary, imagine that! Now note this, a country largely dependent on imports. Therefore we need forex to thrive. GEJ left us in a mess.

And how much was borrowed within this period?
what about the bank charges and other forms of taxation that were introduced by this government.
do you know that if you factor in all the money borrowed and earned by this government,it will almost equal if not surpass the amount earned by the the last administration.

As if the problems Jonathan caused wasn't enough after receiving such an amount from oil revenue, he depleted our savings (foreign reserve and ECA) left to him by OBJ and Yar'adua from over $63 billion to less than $30 billion when he handed over.

That's because you guys and your god are unimaginative, visionless, and inept! Your fixation on oyel prevents you from seeing there are other sectors that can assist the economy to grow! What was the price of oyel when OBJ took over in 1999 up to the anniversary of his first term?

And as if Nigerians haven't suffered enough, you miserable lot are now threatening to foist that sack of bones on us for another four years! How much suffering can a people take tori olonu!? sad
