Nigeria List Uncapped Semi Ajayi, Jamilu Collins For AFCON Qualifier by OLamylove: 4:38pm On Aug 24, 2018 |
Nigeria have named uncapped duo Semi Ajayi and Jamilu Collins in their squad to face Seychelles in September's 2019 Africa Nations Cup qualifier, with Gernot Rohr largely keeping faith with his World Cup squad. Ajayi, a central defender on the books of Championship club Rotherham United, and left- back Collins, who plays for SC Paderborn 07 in the German second division, are amongst four uncapped players in the 24-man squad unveiled in Lagos on Friday. Highly-rated Kelechi Nwakali of Arsenal, who is on a season-long loan at FC Porto B, and new Bordeaux signing Samuel Kalu complete the list of first-timers. Gernot Rohr has retained 18 of his World Cup roster, with the exclusion of retired Victor Moses, and the injury-enforced omission of the trio of John Obi Mikel, Tyronne Ebuehi and Abdullahi Shehu. Elderson Echiejile misses out entirely, in a move which may signal the end of the left-back's international career. There is a return to the squad for Henry Onyekuru and Ola Aina, both of whom missed out on the World Cup party. The former, who is enjoying his start to life on loan at Galatasary, was overlooked by Rohr despite returning from a serious injury, while Aina was dropped from the standby list. The Super Eagles, who are third in Group E after matchday one, are expected to open camp in Seychelles on September 3, five days before the fixture. Full Nigeria squad vs. Seychelles Goalkeepers: Francis Uzoho (Elche, Spain), Ikechukwu Ezenwa (Enyimba, Nigeria), Daniel Akpeyi (Chippa United, South Africa) Defenders: Leon Balogun (Brighton & Hove Albion, England), William Troost-Ekong (Udinese, Italy), Kenneth Omeruo (Leganes, Spain), Chidozie Awaziem (FC Porto, Portugal), Semi Ajayi (Rotherham, England), Ola Aina (Torino, Italy), Brian Idowu (Lokomotiv Moscow, Russia), Jamilu Collins (SC Paderborn 07, Germany) Midfielders: Ogenyi Onazi (Trabzonspor, Turkey), Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City, England), Joel Obi (Chievo Verona, Italy), John Ogu (Hapoel Beer Sheva, Italy), Oghenekaro Etebo (Stoke City, England), Kelechi Nwakali (FC Porto B, Portugal) Forwards: Ahmed Musa (Al-Nassr, Saudi Arabia), Odion Ighalo (Changchun Yatai, China), Simeon Nwankwo (Crotone, Italy), Alex Iwobi (Arsenal, England), Henry Onyekuru (Galatasaray, Turkey), Samuel Kalu (Bordeaux, France), Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City, England) Stand-by list: Uche Abo (Standard Liege, Belgium), Stephen Eze (Lokomotiv Plovdiv, Bulgaria), Musa Muhammed (HNK Gorica, Croatia), Blessing Eleke (FC Luzern, Switzerland) Source http://kwese.espn.com/football/nigeria/story/3608832/nigeria-list-uncapped-semi-ajayijamilu-collins-for-afcon-qualifier?device=featurephone
