it is an open secret that the north(hausas and Fulanis) don't like that Igbo's, this reason is widely known, the coup carried out by Igbo soldiers still lingers on in the mind of the northeners that lost prominent people that very day, the Yoruba's would have hated Igbo's very much had it been chief Awolowo that was killed instead of Akintola. now to the topic, politics is a game of numbers and anybody aspiring to be the president of Nigeria must win the highest number of votes in the election, now comes the hatred issue, the north have a bigger voting population than any region of the country and therefore they hold an ace in determining the president of Nigeria, because of their hatred, they find it really hard to vote for an Igbo man. The Yoruba's on the other hand enjoy favours from northeners and they usually work hand in hand, bihari/osinbajo/idiagbon, obasanjo/atiku
Igbo's have been known to want secession from Nigeria which also gives them a big problem in convincing the north that they won't leave. Accept it or not, the north is a very big determiner in Nigerian politics so anyone they are fully in support of will have an advantage over other rivals.

Igbo's may claim they do not need the presidency but trust me, it is a big lie, every Nigerian wants his tribe to rule every time.
