There is palpable tension within the Federal Polytechnic, Ede and it's environs after an undergraduate of the institution, simply identified as Fish allegedly runned down five pedestrians and killed them on the spot.

The student driver was said to have been drunk while driving on Monday evening.

According to eyewitness account, the final year undergraduate of Building Department is allegedly into cyber fraud popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo and that he had attended a party before driving alongside some of his friends.

The ugly incident happened at Orita Oloki in Ede, Osun state.

The victims were said to be admission seekers to the institution who had visited the school on Monday to write their Post UTME.

It was gathered that the candidates had finished writing their exams at the polytechnic South Campus and where heading home before the driver crushed five of them to death.

Consequently, some other residents of the area, most of whom are youths,  descended on the student driver and lynched him to death.

The friends of Fish were said to have escaped lynching.

Speaking with our correspondent, a Higher National Diploma II student of the Department of Hospitality Management of the institution, who simply identified herself as Julianna confirmed that students of the polytechnic who live off campus are on panic for fear of been attacked by the mob.

She said,  "this evening, the yahoo boy (student driver) was driving in the company of his friends. From all indication, he was drunk because his body was smelling alcohol. These JAMB candidates just finished writing their post UTME at the South Campus  ofnout school and they were running to their destinations before the yahoo boy hit them and killed them.

"Some of the people who saw it started beating him until he was no longer breathing. He killed five of these candidates. In fact,  they have been searching for other students of EdePoly who were with him in the car and we are afraid now. We can't even put on our identity cards again. "

This development has caused fear in the community as the mob had launched a search for the fleeing friends of the student driver.

As at the time of filing this report, the management of the polytechnic had ordered that the gates of the institutions be shut.
