Call for a Riverine Governor for Rivers State come 2019 by Rivers Women Alliance

RIVERS WOMEN ALLIANCE (RIWA), an apolitical women group for every Riverine/ijaw woman living in Rivers State is lending their voice and passionately calling out to every Riverine/ijaw woman residing in and out of the state and those in the Diaspora to unite in solidarity and demand equity and fairness in the geopolitical zoning of the seat of the executive governor of the state.

RIWA is committed to awakening the conscience of every Rivers person, for equity and justice over the marginalization endured by the Riverine/ijaw nationality over the geographical zoning and consideration for the seat of the Executive Governor in Rivers State.

Since the return of democracy in 1999 up till date, the position of the executive governor of Rivers State has been occupied by the Up-Landers. That is approximately 20 years and five successive tenures. Therefore we think, at this point, it’s time to call on our children, youths, fathers and mothers to come together and demand for equity and fairness.

We therefore seek to have a Riverine/Ijaw son become the next governor of our beloved state come 2019. There is no better time than now.

RIWA has researched and looked into the immediate needs of the coastal region of the state and have come to realize that only a Riverine/Ijaw governor will pay adequate attention to the plight of the coastal region.

Helen W. Daniel who spoke so passionately to our correspondents at their Trans-Amadi Office reiterated affectively that “since 1999, we have been supportive of our brothers in the upland and appeal to them to consider electing a Riverine/ijaw governor in 2019 as a mark of equity and fairness, not just for the coastal region but for the progress and inclusive governance of the entire state. This is a wakeup call to the great people of Rivers State to take the bold step in deciding that in 2019, the GOVERNOR will come from the Riverine.

The Upland/Riverine dichotomy cannot be abrogated after it has served the upland for 20 years For Equity and Justice, POWER MUST ROTATE. Our time is NOW!’’.

It is in this light that RIWA has planned and will commence on a public enlightenment and awareness programs throughout the 23 Local Government Areas of the state starting from the 6th of September, 2019 until the various political parties respond and fields a Riverine/ijaw candidate for the 2019 election.

RIVERS WOMEN ALLIANCE is committed to awakening the conscience of every Rivers person, for equity & justice over the marginalization of the Riverine for the seat of the Executive Governor of Rivers State.
